❗We’re asking parents and carers to check what their children are up to if they’re out in the Redcar beach area.

This comes as unfortunately due to high levels of ASB and nuisance last night, a dispersal order has now had to be put in place. It will run until 6.30pm tomorrow, Saturday 15th August.

📍The map shows the dispersal area, which is bordered by Coatham Road, running directly across to Lord Street, onto the beach opposite the Esplanade, Newcomen Terrace and Majuba Road and excludes the beach to the north and west of Majuba caravan park.

Police had received reports of a large number of teenagers gathering on and around Redcar beach with some gaining access over fences at the nearby caravan site then urinating up against caravans.

There were also reports of underage drinking on the dunes, noise and fighting - with police also being told by a third party that they believed one young person may have sustained injuries; at this stage however no one has come forward reporting they are the victim of an assault.

As local authority CCTV and police drone operators monitored the area officers attended however, the large group dispersed on their arrival.

🗣️Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Gary Walters said: “No one wants to spoil children’s fun at the beach during the summer holidays however this spilled into serious ASB and potential criminality.

“As well as this, we discovered a number of empty nitrous oxide cannisters on the sand – this is very concerning and we’d urge parents and carers to ensure their children know of the grave dangers of using these cannisters.

“Residents and visitors will see a higher policing presence in the area as well as a police drone and we will not hesitate to take action should any issues arise.”
