At Sonning Common Primary School we enjoy teaching and we're looking for a full-time teacher to join our successful team (part-time considered) from September 2026. The position could suit an ECT or a more experienced teacher as we simply want to appoint the right person to fit in with us and our values.

Come and experience life as a teacher in our large, vibrant village primary.
We enjoy working here because our school:-
• has great facilities for sport including a huge field, an all-weather court, Forest School and our own newly refurbished swimming pool
• gives us an annual chance to change year groups and key-stage to gain experience across the school
• values outdoor play and pastoral support for all children

What we want in a new colleague:-
• Someone who really loves working as part of a team
• Someone who shares and lives by our values: Respect, Truth, Kindness, Doing-your-best and Politeness
• Someone with a high level of IT competence

All roles attract access to great benefits including a staff wellbeing package, training and professional development opportunities, subsidised wraparound childcare and subsidised children’s swimming lessons

Kites, Year 2 and Year 6 all had workshops from Science Oxford this week. Kites made air powered mice, Year 2 learnt about animals and created their own creatures, whilst Year 6 had to do some codebreaking using Micro:bit. A massive thank you to who delivered some really interesting sessions. We definitely have some budding scientists here at SCPS!

Ciao, Konnichiwa, Hola, G'day, Namaste, and Ni Hao! On Wednesday, the whole school took part in 'Around the World Day'. Every year group chose a country and spent the day learning about its geography and a famous artist. Take a look at some of the work we produced and see if you can recognise the country it is linked to.

Last term, Mr Burrows's Year 5 class read the book The Boy At The Back Of The Class, a fictional tale that explores the plight of refugee schoolchildren in the UK. Inspired by the subject matter, the children wrote formal letters to His Majesty The King. This week, we were delighted to receive a reply!

This term our Digital Leaders have been working hard making guitars and learning to code with the micro:bits. There have been challenges along the way, working out how to connect the micro:bits to Scratch and how to troubleshoot wiring issues but everyone achieved the goal of making music from cardboard and tinfoil and a micro:bit. Not only did they have fun, they learnt some electronics, coding and music notation and pitch. A great example of cross-curricular learning at SCPS.

Last week, Kites and Year 1 enjoyed being read to in assembly by Year 2. The children in Year 2 shared the book they have been working on in their Literacy lessons. It is called Clean Up! and looks at the problem of littering on the beaches. The Year 2's said it was their favourite assembly yet!
