Ramsgate Town Council has approved £25,229.00 in grant funding for nine local projects and activities, following decisions made at its Full Council meeting on 26 August 2026.

The awards provide practical support for youth filmmaking, local heritage, arts development, public events, creative journalism and a musical wellbeing programme for vulnerable mothers and babies.

📣 Coming this November: Ramsgate’s New History Exhibition

Thanet Trust is excited to announce that we’re developing a brand-new local history exhibition celebrating the people, places, stories and memories that make Ramsgate what it is.

And we want the community to help us build it.

Over the coming months, we’ll be inviting local people to get involved in all sorts of ways:

· historical research,
· oral histories,
· identifying old photographs,
· model making,
· exhibition design,
· photography,
· filmmaking, and more.

We’ll also be asking Ramsgate residents to help shape the exhibition's focus and to share or loan photographs, objects, documents and memories that could become part of the final displays.

The exhibition will take place in November 2026, with full dates and further details to be announced soon.

Our new Local Plan Scoping consultation is live. Share your thoughts on what should be in the plan, including its main vision, aims and outcomes.

We also want to know how you’d like to be involved and consulted as the plan progresses.

The Local Plan will guide how Thanet grows over the next 15 years, setting out key priorities for development while making sure special local areas remain protected.

The Chair of Ramsgate Town Council, Councillor Stephen Albon, has led calls for local agencies to come together following the recent tragic incident in Ramsgate, securing an urgent meeting with Kent Police and local ward councillors to discuss community concerns and identify reassurance measures for residents.

Ramsgate Town Council remains committed to working with Kent Police, Thanet District Council and other partners to support residents and ensure that the town continues to be a welcoming and safe place for all.

Three weeks into the project and the scaffolding is complete, ready for the detailed work on the external walls of this fabulous Grade II listed building.

First on the schedule is the rendering.

Grade II Listed Buildings: Rendering is Different

Rendering a Grade II listed building is not quite the same as rendering a modern property.

With a listed building, it is not simply about how the finished render looks. The historic fabric, materials and character of the building all need to be considered.

Traditional materials such as lime render may be more appropriate than modern cement-based products, particularly on older solid-wall properties. Using the wrong materials can trap moisture and potentially damage the underlying masonry.

Before removing existing render or applying a new system, it is important to establish whether Listed Building Consent is required and, where appropriate, discuss the proposed work with the local Conservation Officer.

For a normal building, you have far more flexibility. For a listed property, the aim is to protect the building's character while carrying out the work correctly.
