Ramsgate and Broadstairs Sea Cadets

Last night, cadets from TS Bulldog had the fantastic opportunity to visit TS John Jerwood, currently alongside in Ramsgate Harbour. With our own PO Eisinger serving aboard for the past two weeks as the ship’s Engineer, the team were given a unique behind‑the‑scenes look at life on one of the Sea Cadets’ dedicated offshore training vessels.

Cadets explored the engine room, learned about the ship’s machinery, and gained insight into the engineering routines that keep Jerwood operational throughout her training deployments. Experiences like this help cadets understand the real‑world skills used at sea — from teamwork and safety to engineering awareness and maritime discipline.

TS John Jerwood is a 24‑metre training ship purpose‑built for Sea Cadets. She regularly sails around the UK delivering week‑long voyages where cadets live aboard, learn seamanship, navigation, engineering basics, and experience life at sea as part of a working ship’s company.

Opportunities like this visit are a great reminder that cadets can apply for week‑long voyages on TS John Jerwood, TS Jack Petchey, TS Royalist, and other Sea Cadet vessels — gaining unforgettable offshore experience and nationally recognised training.

We are actively seeking new adult volunteers (uniformed or non‑uniformed) and young people aged 10–17 who are ready to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and join a team with real purpose.

Whether you’re interested in supporting training, helping behind the scenes, or stepping into a uniformed role, your time and experience can make a genuine difference to local young people.

Our cadets take part in sailing, rowing, marine engineering, first aid, leadership, adventure training and so much more - all within a nationally recognised Royal Navy‑aligned youth organisation.

This week, TS Bulldog was proudly represented at the Southern Area Summer Camp, held at HMS Raleigh, by AC Tebbutt‑Ford.

Summer Camp is one of the most sought‑after opportunities in the Sea Cadets calendar, and this year demand across the Southern Area far exceeded the number of available spaces. Although only one of our cadets secured a place, we are incredibly proud of AC Tebbutt‑Ford for stepping forward and making the most of this fantastic experience.

Throughout the week, cadets from across the area took part in a packed programme of training, challenges, and activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and naval skills. AC Tebbutt‑Ford has represented TS Bulldog with maturity and enthusiasm, and we look forward to welcoming them home today and hearing all about their achievements.

We remain committed to supporting as many cadets as possible in accessing future camps and opportunities, and will continue to promote these events as soon as they become available.

Well done, AC Tebbutt‑Ford - you’ve done TS Bulldog proud.

This week, a number of TS Bulldog cadets completed six days of intensive RYA sailing at Minnis Bay Sailing Club, training alongside the club’s public courses and supported by our own Sea Cadet instructors.

Across Monday to Saturday, cadets spent over 20 hours on the water, developing skills, confidence, and resilience.

We are proud to share that three cadets achieved RYA Youth Stage 1, one achieved Stage 2, and several others are very close — needing just a little more time afloat to complete their next qualification.

A special mention goes to the cadet who earned an additional RYA Winging Youth Stage 1 as well has his sailing certificate, and to our very own instructor Tom, who successfully gained his RYA Assistant Dinghy Instructor certification.

Bravo Zulu to all cadets and instructors for their commitment, teamwork, and determination throughout the week.

On Tuesday 18th August, cadets from TS Bulldog travelled to London for a privileged visit hosted by the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team. With an early start at 0715, our team of 13 cadets and 3 instructors made the journey to HMS President, arriving at St Katharine’s Dock at 0945.

Cadets received a guided tour of President, exploring the various messes, learning about naval history, rates, and long‑standing traditions. They then took part in a series of STEM and Leadership activities, designed to develop teamwork, problem‑solving and confidence — all delivered by serving Royal Navy personnel.

After an insightful talk on careers and opportunities across the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Merchant Navy, the team departed with goody bags full of gizzits and headed to HMS Belfast for lunch and an unrestricted afternoon tour. Over 10,000 steps later, the cadets completed their visit and returned safely to TS Bulldog at 1930.

A huge thank you to PO Redgate and the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team for providing our cadets with an exceptional experience and a day they will not forget.

This evening our TS Bulldog cadets took to Ramsgate Royal Harbour for a focused rowing session, building on the momentum from Monday’s sailing.

Conditions were calm, teamwork was strong, and the cadets showed real determination throughout.Rowing is all about rhythm, communication, and trust — and the cadets demonstrated all three as they developed their technique and confidence on the water.

A solid effort from every member of the team and a great continuation of their training this week.

A brilliant start to the season for TS Bulldog’s sailing team on Monday.

Things didn’t run perfectly — a few surprises kept us on our toes — but they gave us the chance to show the cadets what “adapt and overcome” really looks like.

Once afloat, the team had an amazing time. Great energy, great learning, and a great first step into this year’s sailing programme.

Thursday evening TS Bulldog hosted our monthly divisions to celebrate the achievements of our ship's company.

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Ramsgate, the Mayor's Consort and the Town Sargent for from Ramsgate to the unit.

Thank you to the Mayor and Consort who took part in uniform inspections and delivered a talk to the cadets about local government. The cadets were engaged throughout the session and found it incredibly insightful.

We had many awards issued by Madam Mayor including 4 junior badges for their red unit module, 3 promotions to Junior Cadet First Class, 1 Solo Drumming award, one Air Rifle award and a celebration of staff promotion. 😃⚓🇬🇧

Another great shooting training day for cadets from Ramsgate & Broadstairs Sea Cadets and Margate Sea Cadets.

Cadets demonstrated excellent focus and professionalism, learning correct range procedures, concentration techniques, and the importance of responsibility in a controlled and supportive environment.

NOTE: Cadets are taught weapons handling skills as part of a structured program of supervised training that emphasizes safe and responsible use. All cadets handling these rifles are under the supervision of qualified skills at arms instructors.

Well done to all cadets for their commitment and positive attitude, and thank you to our instructors and volunteers for ensuring the training was both safe and successful.
