Reform councillors step forward to help local man doing his bit for Thanet and slapped with a parking fine.
Today, Cllr Marc Rattigan and Cllr Barry Manners were delighted to meet Geoff and hand over the £275 generously donated by local residents following the unfair fine he received while volunteering to clear litter from the Lido car park.
This fantastic response shows the very best of Thanet. When one of our volunteers was treated unfairly, local people stepped forward to help. We would like to thank everyone who donated and showed their support.
Volunteers like Geoff make a huge difference to our community. They give up their own time to help keep our neighbourhoods clean, tidy and welcoming. They often help fill gaps where public services are stretched, and their contribution deserves recognition and encouragement.
As councillors, we greatly value the work of volunteers across Thanet. We believe all public bodies and agencies should do everything possible to support, motivate and encourage those who give their time freely for the benefit of others—not create obstacles that discourage them.
