East Thanet Reform Party in action. Recently, a local walker brought our attention to overgrown plants covering memorial benches in front of Ramsgate Boating Pool. Some were so large that they almost completely covered the seat, preventing people from sitting on them.
We got into action! A team brought along secateurs, bags and brooms and filled 11 bags with cuttings!
As many of us are bee fans, we were careful to leave flowering plants where they were not affecting the seating.
We swept up any mess and the cuttings were safely deposited at the local waste tip.

The Reform Party made the following pledges at the National Party Conference.

Each senior minister under a Reform UK Government will have pledged to achieve something tangible and impactful in their First 100 Days in post.

If they fail to meet their pledge, they will resign or can expect to be sacked.

Here are the first four pledges:

Education Pledge
» Cut student loan issuance by 20%.
» Lift the cap on medical school places, enabling hundreds of British applicants with top grades to obtain places.
» Introduce 0% interest loans for nursing students.

Cut your Energy Bills Pledge
» Cut household energy bills by £250 per year.
» Scrapping the carbon costs on energy bills will save £90 per year.
» Removing policy costs will save £80 per year.
» Making permanent the scrapping of VAT on household energy bills will save £90 per year.

Stop the Boats Pledge
» Stop the boats immediately by deploying the Royal Navy in the channel to intercept small boats and safely es**rt illegal migrants to their point of departure on Navy vessels.

Cut your Tax Pledge
» Raise the personal allowance from £12,570 to £15,000.
» This will save workers £486 per person, almost £1,000 per couple.
» This will benefit 40 million taxpayers, and take 2.9 million earners out of income tax altogether.
» It also makes sure the state pension remains untaxed, keeping more money in the pocket of Britain’s 13 million pensioners.

How easy councillors can find ‘good causes’ to spend money on. Meanwhile streets go unswept and bins go unemptied. With the poor state of council finances perhaps focus should be directed to essentials rather than championing good causes no matter how worthy they may be.

More houses planned for Thanet.

Thanet District Council have announced a consultation on the new ‘Thanet Local Plan’. The consultation will be open until the 9th October.

In relation to housing, the Council needs to consider, as a starting point, the Government’s “standard method”.

This calculation (as of May 2026), results in a minimum Local Housing Need of 1,106 dwellings per year for Thanet.

The Council would like to hear about:

Any sites that might be available to help meet the development needs of the district.

The move to Unitary Authorities in 2028 does not negate the need for the Thanet Local Plan.

Labour in hock to the Unions.

Andy Burnham has handed train drivers a lucrative pay rise to avoid strikes on the country’s flagship London to Manchester line.

In his first significant public sector wage deal since coming to power, the prime minister has agreed “bumper” pay deals with union leaders for Avanti West Coast, the main operator of services between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

The Aslef union has secured Avanti drivers, who start on a salary of about £70,000, time-and-ahalf pay on Sundays, a single-year wage rise of 3.6 per cent — above the most recent inflation rate of 2.9 per cent — and up to £720 simply for turning up to work on a fifth day of the working week.

The union’s most recent accounts show it gave Labour more than £300,000 in 2024, including for the general election campaign won by Sir Keir Starmer, who subsequently gave drivers a controversial 15 per cent pay rise in conjunction with Louise Haigh, who was then the transport secretary. Shocking to see violence returns to Ramsgate with Harbour Street cordoned off and further cordons at Harbour Parade following an incident early hours of Sunday morning.
This follows a similar incident in Grange Road on Friday morning.

Police are over stretched and under strength. The people of Ramsgate are feeling the pain.
