High House Purfleet On Thames Community

High House Purfleet On Thames Community Page dedicated to the Tudor Manorial site of High House in Purfleet - On - Thames, Essex. UK. This Page is run by the High House Community Group volunteers.

Now a heritage site & home to several Creative Centres including The Royal Opera House Thurrock. High House is the collective name for a group of historic buildings in Purfleet - On - Thames, used as a Manor Farm for hundreds of years, with a Grade II listed house and barns, with the addition of one of the best dovecotes in Southern England - a Scheduled Ancient Monument, notable for its nest box

array. The property includes the house, coachman's cottage, chaise house, stable, granary, barn, workshop, cart sheds, and inner and outer walled gardens. Known by many names in its past, the farm was at one time called Le Vineyards, because grape vines were grown on one of its south facing slopes. Its current name comes from the fact that it is a house 'High' on the hill, commanding great views over the River Thames. This view includes the Queen Elizabeth 2nd Second Bridge. This page is run by a member of the High House Community Group who hold monthly meetings; promote the heritage and history of High House through a regular presence on site, hold community events and maintain displays on the history of the site in a small museum known as our heritage "hut". The site is incorporated with High House Production Park which includes the Royal Opera House Thurrock, a Costume Centre, The Backstage Centre housing a National Skills Academy as part of South Essex University; the Thurrock Music Centre and the Barns which can be hired for meetings and conferences. Tours of the Royal Opera House Thurrock and the Costume Centre can be booked through their website. https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/thurrock-tour-dates

If your practice is grounded in listening, participation and working with people outdoors and in public settings, we’d love to hear from you.

As we reflect on another busy year of T100 activity, we’re proud to be making real progress towards a more sustainable T100 as part of our ongoing commitment to minimising our environmental impact. Here are some stats comparing our 2025 events to 2024 events:

🚗 Car journeys to our events are down by almost 20%
🚶‍♀️ 51% of all travel to our events was on foot or public transport
🚆 Train travel is up by 30% (trains emit 10 x less CO₂ than cars!)
🗺️ We’re choosing event locations that are easy to reach by public transport, wherever possible

Every small shift adds up – and these changes are helping reduce our collective footprint while keeping T100 accessible and inclusive for everyone.

→ Our commitment: To embed sustainability into everything we do, support wellbeing through positive climate action, and inspire our communities to tread lightly on the planet.

→ Have some planet-friendly ideas? Drop a note to George, our T100 Environmental Champion, at [email protected]
