The Roman Mine is now easier to access than ever. Start by visiting the mineyard to collect your key fob. From there, follow the path up the hill to a hidden entrance in the Welsh hills and explore the mine at your own leisure.

I ganiatáu rhagor o fynediad i’r mwyngloddiau aur Rhufeinig, rydym wedi gwneud newidiadau fel bod y Mwynglawdd Rhufeinig bellach yn hygyrch i ymwelwyr heb orfod archebu ymlaen llaw. Wrth gyrraedd, bydd ymwelwyr yn derbyn ffob a fydd yn caniatáu mynediad am ddim i’r mwynglawdd drwy gydol y dydd.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to Dolaucothi this year! Over the winter, we’ve been hard at work making improvements that we hope will make your visit even better.

To allow more access to the Roman gold mines, we’ve made changes so that the Roman Mine is now accessible to visitors without the need to pre-book. On arrival, visitors will receive a fob that allows free access to the mine throughout the day.

For those seeking a deeper underground experience, pre-booked guided tours of the Victorian Mine and Level Mine are available. Led by expert guides, these tours reveal the secrets of Gold mining and take you beneath the surface into the mines themselves. Please note that a tour fee applies to both members and non-members.

You can continue to discover the rich history of gold mining at the only known Roman gold mine in Wales through the mine yard, field centre, and by having a go at gold panning.

The Romans are returning to Pumsaint – the Legio VIII Augusta MGV Roman Living History Society bring Pumsaint’s past back to life.

A re-creation of a Roman Camp where you’ll get an Insight into daily life on camp. What’s cooking on the campfire? See the armour up close and take a look at the coin mint or the cobblers.
