🏠🏑🏘️ Do you care about housing provision in Bury Parish? Join us!

Could you donate any of your time to our community-led housing group?

We’re looking for people with enthusiasm for getting involved in housing provision in our community – no skills needed, but bonus if you do have any skills to contribute (e.g. accounting. finance, legal etc), as we move towards becoming a Community Land Trust.

Get in touch if you’re interested in joining us or you’d like an informal chat about potentially joining: [email protected].

🏠 There is ONE WEEK left to fill your housing survey, and we'd be very grateful if every household in the parish could fill one.

🏠 Also any offspring of parishioners, who grew up here, are very welcome to fill one in, especially if they would like to live in the parish but can't afford to do so.

🏠 Even if you and your family (and staff if you are a local employer) have all your housing needs met, that is helpful information in itself, so the survey is still for you.

Bury Apple Pressing and Social Day, 27th September, 10am - 4pm, Bury Green 🍏🍻🍎🎼

A popular annual event when we make as much use as possible of the huge quantity of apples from the local area, which would otherwise go to waste. It’s also a very good excuse for a get together!

This year is already proving to be an extremely fruitful year for our apple trees, so save your apples so we can make lots of beautiful juice. And if fresh apple juice is not drunk quickly, it turns into cider within a few days...

APPLE DAY PROGRAMME

Apple pressing starts at 10am
> You can bring your apples before this to allow us to make an early start
> Coffee will be available from 10am

From 12pm:
> Live music from Duncan McKenzie
> Bar opens
> BBQ served
> Apple pies on sale

Take your apple juice home - This will freeze really well in plastic bottles, so if you can bring some containers, it will be appreciated. Plastic milk bottles work really well. We will have some containers available as well. If you want to make cider, please bring large buckets etc for the fermentation.

No entry fee but donations towards costs for the pressing will be greatly appreciated. Bar and BBQ are cash or card.

Tips for keeping your apples in good condition before the day:
They are probably already dropping, but you can store any fruit that is not too badly bruised and is without visible bugs, in shallow wooden or cardboard boxes, under cover. Simply turn them every few days, getting rid of any rotten ones.

Any questions or queries, or if you'd like to get involved, call Judith (B&WB Volunteers) on 07534 361700, or email [email protected].

The Bury Summer Party on 29th June was a great success thanks to the participation and enthusiasm of our community. With sunny skies and a gentle breeze, volunteers helped with the set up, cooked, served nibbles, tended the bar and helped with the clearing up.

Equally impressive was the turnout. Over 100 guests filled the village green with laughter, chatter, and a sense of community to the background of music provided by Bury Parish Council.
And thanks to the generous contributions of those who attended and bought drinks, we are thrilled to announce that we raised Β£306.30. This sum will go towards the start of our local fundraising efforts to ensure that Bury Village Hall is rejuvenated and continues to serve as a hub for community events and gatherings long into the future.

SAVE THE DATE! The summer party will be held on Saturday 28th June 2025 and if you missed it this year we would love to see you then.

Looking forward to the party this evening!

Remember that you now need to book a slot for a trip to the tip. This can be done on the same day and people are currently finding they can book last minute, so hopefully the system will be more convenient than many are expecting it to be. The move is expected to save WSCC Β£200k per year as more will be recycled rather than disposed of, which comes at a cost. Research has apparently found that booking systems surprisingly do not increase fly tipping.

β™» Booking slots are now available for ALL Recycling Centres in West Sussex, in preparation for the extension of the Book To Recycle scheme on 12 February 2024.
πŸ—“ Slots can be booked up to two weeks in advance & on the same day from 12 February, where available.
