Harlawhill Day Care centre was opened in Prestonpans to provide day care for elderly clients in a warm and friendly environment The old C.O.O.P. Preston branch shop on East Loan was rented and carefully converted to a comfortable standard with all the necessary kitchen, dining, sitting and leisure room areas.All this work was done under the guidance of Dr. Pat Gracie. The Preston branch of the sto

re was always a bright friendly place ,the main grocery supplier in the locality,and very well frequented by the locals.It was always busy, bustling with life and staffed with friendly helpful people.

What a suprise for Agnes McLeod our lovely member is famous for loving Sweet Caroline Neil Diamond . Whenever we have an entertainer in Agnes will always ask for it . This was recognised by Radio 4 how popular Agnes was on Facebook. So today they were in doing an interview. Agnes will be famous and on the soul music show in August she gave a beautiful interview . It was lovely to hear Agnes saying her husband bought her that record years ago and it became her favourite song . We ended the interview with her pals all singing it . Ian Boffey who was recording the interview actually said he felt quite emotional as he found it a beautiful setting and a lovely atmosphere and how amazing Agnes was.

It was all about Gillians 60th today. Gillian had a lovely day with her harlawhill family. Enjoyed a beautiful salad ,strawberries and meringue. Then an afternoon of entertainment with Rose making it an excellent day for us to celebrate Gillian Baggs 60th.

On 30th May, we put out an appeal on behalf of one of our members living with advanced stage 4 lung cancer. Her nursing team had identified that the carpets in her living room and bedroom were significantly aggravating her breathing difficulties, and replacing them with hard flooring would greatly improve her comfort and quality of life.

Within less than an hour of the appeal being published, Steven Thomson of East Coast Carpets contacted us, despite being on holiday, determined to find a way to help.

Thanks to the generosity of Steven, Brian, Erica and Lindsey at East Coast Carpets all the flooring materials were donated and the wages of their employees, John and Blair, were fully covered so they could install new vinyl flooring in the living room last week.

The project was completed this afternoon when Jonathan Carruthers of J.C. Joinery & Flooring generously gave up his own time and expertise to fit new laminate flooring in the bedroom free of charge after learning of the circumstances.

The lady who has benefited from this amazing act of kindness asked us to pass on the following message: "I have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown to me and the generosity of those involved in doing the work and providing all the materials."

This project will make a real difference to her quality of life moving forward, helping her remain comfortable at home and continue to receive support and companionship among friends at Harlawhill.

From everyone at Harlawhill Day Care Centre, thank you to Steven, Brian, Erica, Lindsey, John, Blair and Jonathan for demonstrating what community spirit truly looks like.
