Eurasian Hobby (URN: 7040) - Norfolk, UK - Sony A1 II

The Eurasian Hobby (Falco subbuteo) is a small, fast falcon that visits the UK each summer to breed before returning to Africa for the winter. It is often seen hunting over heathland, wetlands and open countryside, where it catches insects and small birds in flight. Although it is a regular summer visitor, it is much less common than birds such as kestrels and sparrowhawks. An interesting fact is that Falco subbuteo does not build its own nest. Instead, it usually takes over old nests built by crows or other large birds, often high in mature trees near woodland edges and open hunting grounds.
