Today marks the official birthday of King Charles III 🇬🇧

Across the UK and the Commonwealth, celebrations are taking place this weekend to mark the Monarch’s official birthday.

The highlight is the traditional Trooping the Colour parade in London, featuring hundreds of soldiers, horses, and military bands in a spectacular display of British pageantry.

Although His Majesty’s actual birthday is in November, the official celebration takes place in June to make the most of the summer weather.

Wishing King Charles III a very happy official birthday.

YOUR VOICE - A storytelling project for military spouses and partners.

An exciting new opportunity has come up in Lancashire for military spouses and partners to come together, connect, and share their experiences through storytelling.

The Drive Project are launching 'Your Voice', a small-group, professionally guided storytelling project designed to support wellbeing, build confidence, and create meaningful connections within the military community.

The Drive Project is working collaboratively with the College for Military Veterans and Emergency Services (CMVES) at the University of Lancashire, supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund, to deliver this programme.

With two engaging workshops, alongside online sessions, and guided by experienced coach Corinne Micallef, participants will be supported to reflect on their journey as a military spouse or partner and explore how to express their personal story in a creative and meaningful way.

Military life asks a great deal not just of those who serve, but of those beside them. The resilience, adaptability and commitment of spouses and partners are essential, yet often go unseen. This project creates space to recognise that contribution and connect with others who understand.

Why take part?
• Connect with others who share similar experiences
• Reflect on and shape your personal story
• Be heard in a supportive, understanding environment
• Explore creativity and try something new

Programme dates:
• Online Meet & Greet - Monday 11th June, 10:00 - 11:30
• In-person workshops - Preston - Wednesday 17th & 24th June, 10:00 - 14:30
• Online Reflection session - 29th June, 10:00 - 11:30

Last week HQ (Waterloo) Company's Defence Platoon made use of the Close-Quarters Battle (CQB) facility at Kimberley Barracks in Preston, to practice low-light training with the HMNVS (night-vision).

The culmination of several weeks of progressive training, the session focused on developing existing skills, with the added stressors of low-to-no light, and sound. This was only incorporated after the basics were thoroughly taught, practiced and assessed - helping soldiers adapt to dynamic conditions they will face outside the training environment.

Last year the QMs Department purchased the QuickBlock tactical training system. These are modular blocks that can be used to create temporary structures, and when filled offer ballistic protection. They can be quickly reconfigured to create different room layouts and scenarios, and give troops the opportunity to develop skills that are essential in modern warfare. The battalion is looking to purchase more QuickBlocks in the near future, as well as specialist doors which allow the practice of Methods of Entry (MoE).

The Defence Platoon in Preston are currently pioneering the use of this system and CQB training, supporting this essential capability across the wider battalion and better preparing our soldiers for operations in the modern era, which is increasingly urban.

This is some of the most enjoyable training you will do as a soldier in the Army Reserve, and a great way to spend a Tuesday evening.

Planning. Visualising. Reviewing.

These are part of our training culture, and part of what makes a good soldier mentally sharp and prepared for the task at hand.

Performance matters. But so does what happens after.

Mental resilience isn’t just about enduring, it’s about bouncing back and being able to go again.

The challenges & environments you'll face as an Army Reservist develop your resilience and grit in a way not on offer anywhere else.

These are tools & traits that you will carry for life.

Congratulations to Kingsman Mitchell, of D (Inkerman) Company, who recently attended Belle Vue Army Reserve Centre in Manchester for his Attestation Ceremony.

Aged 36 from Urmston, Kingsman Mitchell works as a bus driver in his civilian career. His hobbies include training, football and running, and he has decided to join the Army Reserve to gain new skills and experiences not on offer in the civilian world.

All of our soldiers and officers undertake an attestation ceremony in which they swear their allegiance to the King, his heirs and officers of His Majesty's Armed Forces.

This marks the official joining of the British Army and means they are now Army Reservists, eligible to begin their training and receive pay, as well as other financial benefits.

Once attested, our soldiers can then look forward to beginning their formal training to become fully-qualified Army Reservists.

Congratulations Kingsman Mitchell.
