🍃THE GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK: 6TH TO 14TH JUNE🍃

The Great Big Green Week is organised by The Climate Coalition - the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

The theme this year is ‘Together for Good’: when people come together in their communities, they create real, practical benefits - for local places, for nature, for climate and for our shared future.

The Poynton Town Council Biodiversity Plan encourages us all do think more about our local environment and wildlife.

Join us outside the Civic Hall on Thursday 11th June 3.30pm -4.30pm to show how you can reduce food waste and make more food to eat!

🌟MAKING A DIFFERENCE🌟

The Make A difference Marketplace, which took place on the last week of April, was a chance to learn more about the amazing volunteer groups in Poynton, how they support our community and for businesses to support where possible.

Planters at Poynton Station were sponsored, a large donation was made to a good cause in the town, staff at Vernon Building Society met with groups who they could potentially support through their Community Stars Scheme and Poynton Golf Society gave three groups £350 each.

Poynton Town Council was also able to raise awareness of their ambition to raise funds to bring CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) heart screening to Poynton in 2027. This on top of the awareness raising and networking that happened on the evening too!

Here’s Martin and John from Poynton Golf Society presenting Judith from Poynton Community Larder with their kind donation.

This volunteers' week, we have been thinking about the difference volunteers make to our community. We are grateful to each and every person who gives their time to help others in so many ways:

⭐Supporting the isolated and vulnerable
⭐Providing inclusive, welcoming spaces
⭐Keeping the Town looking beautiful
⭐Providing events and activities for all to enjoy

Thank you for everything you do. 💖

POYNTON UNDER THREAT

Your Poynton Town Councillors have recently compiled the attached map, showing all current building or pre planning applications that have been approved, received or are under consideration in or around Poynton. It includes sites within Poynton and Adlington (in Cheshire East) and also in Woodford, Bramhall and Hazel Grove (in Stockport).

We are concerned that there has been an influx of applications in Poynton because of the Grey Belt rules and the excessive housing targets for both Cheshire East and Stockport Councils, which were both introduced in 2024. If these sites are approved for housing, it will create urban sprawl with massive loss of Green Belt land. The Town Council supports the provision of more housing - we believe that the first priority should be the redevelopment of previously used "brownfield" sites.

We have asked Tim Roca MP for his help and support in changing these policies to remove these threats or at least moderate them to avoid any further urbanisation.

Important update from Cheshire East regarding Poynton Pool

Survey works at Poynton Pool – 3 to 5 June

Survey works will be taking place at Poynton Pool from Wednesday 3 June until Friday 5 June to support ongoing discussions about the design and development of future improvement works needed at the reservoir.

This is part of our continued commitment to work closely with the Friends of Poynton Pool and Poynton Town Council to help us develop an acceptable way forward on these much needed safety improvements.

The works, which will be carried out by consultants on our behalf, involve temporarily putting wooden pegs in the ground along the length of the existing embankment.

The pegs will be clearly marked so they are visible to the public and will not be put in places where they could cause damage to tree roots.

Thank you for your cooperation while these works are carried out safely.
