The Hampshire Development Forum had the mayoral candidates singing for their supper yeasterday.

It was a great opportunity to set out my vision for the Hampshire, Solent and Isle of Wight Combined Authority.

Devolution gives us a real opportunity to do things differently: to improve transport, build the homes our communities need, equip people with the skills to get good jobs, and grow our economy.

But the Combined Authority must be about more than structures and strategies. It needs to improve people’s lives.

That’s the kind of mayor I want to be: focused on getting things done, bringing people together and making sure this new authority delivers for every part of Hampshire, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.

This scandal goes right to the top of Reform UK. The sleaze now engulfing their Party isn’t going away – it’s getting worse. Farage must co-operate with the authorities and urgently prove that his top team haven’t broken the law and secretly plotted to undermine our democracy.

🚨 UPDATE: Waverley Gardens & Wimbledon Park residents deserve action, not more waiting!

Local councillors Graham and Charlotte recently spent time speaking to residents around Waverley Gardens and one thing was very clear: residents have had enough of the ongoing crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.

There has been a public consultation on whether the area should have a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) but despite residents making their views known, we’re still waiting for action.

Worryingly, the Lib Dem council had previously assumed there weren’t significant issues because relatively few incidents had been formally reported.

But when we spoke to residents and knocked on doors, we heard a very different story.

Drug dealing and drug taking, large gatherings, brawls, people defecating in the area and persistent noise are all still causing serious problems. And residents told us they have simply become exhausted with reporting the same issues time and time again.

We also heard that problems can start as early as 7.30–8am, while when the park gates aren’t properly secured, gatherings and noise can continue through the night until 5am.

This isn’t good enough. Residents shouldn’t have to keep putting up with this while the council drags its feet.

The consultation has happened. Residents have spoken. Now we need action.

Our local councillors will continue pushing for urgent progress on the PSPO and making sure the voices of Waverley Gardens and Wimbledon Park residents are heard loud and clear.

There can be no more excuses from the Lib Dems running Portsmouth City Council.

From HMOs taking over family homes to stalled developments, our city is facing a housing crisis. No family should be left without a secure place to call home.

That’s why Labour in Government is taking action:

🔹 Investing nearly £10B to build 70,000+ new social & affordable homes across England.
🔹 Putting councils back at the heart of housebuilding.
🔹 Launching the first step in a £39B programme for the biggest housing expansion in a generation.

This investment will help families out of temporary accommodation and off long waiting lists. We’ll be fighting to ensure Portsmouth gets its fair share!
