We don’t just protect our coastlines at Coastal Partners — we care for wildlife too.
Among the small but mighty creatures we support are bees, playing a vital role in our environment every day.

The UK has more than 250 bee species, but numbers are falling due to loss of flower-rich habitats. Which of course is why we’re using opportunities such as these to provide habitat for bees by planting wildflowers and installing bee posts which serve as nesting sites.

Here are some fun facts about how our bee posts work:
🐝 Our bee posts are designed to mimic natural nesting spaces placed
🐝 They are placed in sheltered south-facing sunny spot to support bees year-round.
🐝 Bees use our posts for egg laying, development and overwintering shelter.

The most recent projects we’ve placed these bee posts are at North Portsea Coastal Scheme , Southsea Coastal Scheme and Forton Coastal Defence Scheme!

Please note we’re installing the lovely new handrails at the open section of Ports Creek, near the railway bridge, which should take around two weeks.

A small section will be closed daily between 8am-4pm so we can carry out this work safely.

Looking at the map below, the red section will be closed during the day, but the blue section will remain open as usual.

We are pleased to let you know that the path refresh work at Kendall’s Wharf (Eastern Road) is now complete ahead our schedule! The fences have been removed and the public are able to access the area again.

As Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today, we’re reminded of the importance of protecting our planet for future generations.

The North Portsea and Southsea Coastal Schemes take a long term view, looking beyond today to protect local communities, wildlife and green spaces from the increasing risks of climate change and rising sea levels.

The schemes are designed to provide protection for the next 100 years, combining engineering with environmental restoration you can see in North Portsea and new habitats for wildlife, which you can see with these new tide pools in Southsea.

As Portsmouth marks 100 years of city status, we’re celebrating a century of people, places and protection. If you or someone you know is also turning 100 this year like Sir David, Portsmouth City Council would love to hear from you - find out more on the link below.

From today, we’ll be carrying out small improvement works along the Tipner shoreline as part of the final phase of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme.
We’ll be topping up gravel footpaths, areas around benches and stepping stones. The zig-zag paths will be closed off while we carry out this work, but the coastal path will stay open and access will be maintained throughout.
There’ll be a temporary compound set up by the playground car park. Parking will be reduced in places and there may be short, occasional closures of the Spinnaker Drive crossing while we move heavy machinery.
This work should be finished by mid-July.

We’re pleased to confirm that access to the People’s Memorial is now open 🌿
As part of the ongoing sea defence works, some sections of the coastal path will still be temporarily closed while the surface is refreshed.
🚧 Works are moving from north to south, with sections reopening as soon as they’re ready.
🌦️ The final section is expected to reopen by the end of June, weather permitting.

We're pleased to confirm that there is now access to the The People’s Memorial at Milton Common.

🌍Today is Earth Day 🌍

Across Portsmouth, work is happening to protect parts of the city that are most exposed to flooding from the effects of climate change.

Through the North Portsea Coastal Scheme and the Southsea Coastal Scheme, defences are being strengthened in different locations to help safeguard homes, roads and well‑used public spaces.

The before‑and‑after images show just how much has changed already.
