We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Henry Rice, a Second World War veteran, D-Day veteran and friend of RNRMC.

Henry joined the Royal Navy in 1943 and served aboard HMS Eastway, arriving off Juno Beach in the days following D-Day. He went on to spend many years sharing the stories of those who served alongside him, helping to keep their memory alive for future generations.

Earlier this year, through our Remembrance and Comradeship work with Greenwich Hospital, we had the privilege of supporting Henry at D-Day commemorations and celebrating his 100th birthday at HMS Excellent.

While Henry's wartime service was remarkable, it was his character that left such a lasting impression on so many people. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with those around him. Whether meeting someone for the first time or re-connecting with others, Henry made everyone he shared time with feel joyful.

Anyone who met Henry will understand the sense of loss being felt today.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those whose lives were touched by him.

May his service never be forgotten.

Today, we stood with families to welcome home HMS Dragon.

For around 230 sailors, it marks the end of a deployment that began in March and took them thousands of miles from their loved ones. Behind every sailor stepping ashore today is a family that has spent months navigating birthdays, milestones and everyday life apart.

Throughout the deployment, RNRMC has been proud to support HMS Dragon's people. From pre-deployment team building and welfare initiatives overseas to supporting the wider naval family at home, our work helps ensure those who serve, and the families who serve alongside them, never face those challenges alone.

The hugs, smiles and tears captured in today's homecoming tell a powerful story of sacrifice, resilience and reunion.
