Hotwalls Studios brings artists and makers together in an exceptional heritage location

This page is set up and run by the makers and artists in residence at the Hotwalls Studios. The website http://www.hotwallsstudios.co.uk is the official link for the studios and management. The beautifully renovated barracks have been transformed in to 13 working studios, which will allow you to watch some of the city's most creative individuals at work, and
where you'll be able to purchase professional pieces from the artists and makers themselves.

We're thrilled to be joined by in the Round Tower tomorrow for Open Studios🌌✨

Holly is a Southsea based artist who uses painting and performance as creative expressions. Despite her BTEC in Art and Design, she does consider herself to be self-taught. She has been drawing with whatever she can find from a very young age and only made the transition into painting during her BTEC.

Holly quickly gravitated towards impressionism, expressionism and pop art and was enamoured by artists such as David Hockey, who presented a way of painting landscapes with such energy and vibrancy. This began her journey into chasing colour, the bold and the exciting.

Over the last five years, she has taken inspiration from NASA’s missions to Jupiter, particularly the ground breaking images released from Mission: JUNO which captures the brilliance of the planet's poles.

And don't forget, as usual, our resident artist's studios will be open for you to explore what's new! 👀

Everyone here at Hotwalls Studios is excited to be the meeting point for the 2026 parade! 🏳‍🌈

📅 - Saturday 6th June
📍 - Meet at the Hotwalls Studios in Old Portsmouth
⏰ - Arrive ready for the parade to start at 11.30am
🏳️‍🌈 - Wear your best parade outfit (swimwear coverage minimum)
👣 - The route heads through Old Portsmouth, past Portsmouth Cathedral, before turning towards Southsea, crossing over the Rainbow Crossing and past the Queen's Hotel before entering Southsea Common for Portsmouth Pride 2026!

If you're planning to visit the Studios or tomorrow (Saturday 6th June), please be advised that there will be some temporary road closures and parking suspensions in place:

🅿 Parking Restriction
7am-11.45am - South side of Broad St. to Tower Alley junction and North side of Broad St. between White Hart Rd. and Oyster St.

🚫 Temporary Road Closure
11.45am-12pm - Broad St. and High St. until Pembroke Rd. junction.

Another week, another Resident Artist spotlight - this time it's the brilliantly whimsical Hollie of , Studio 3 🐚🏺

After studying ceramics at university, Hollie relocated to the South Coast and now makes all of her work from her studio here at Hotwalls in Old Portsmouth. Hollie creates hand-built pottery from locally foraged clay and natural glazes made from rocks and seaweed. A collector of unusual objects, she often incorporates them into her textured, one-of-a-kind vessels.

Her work reflects the local landscape, drawing inspiration from found natural and discarded materials along the Old Portsmouth shore. Using slow, thoughtful techniques such as pinching and coiling, Hollie achieves distinctive surface textures that celebrate the tactile nature of clay.

She also offers ceramic workshops in Portsmouth, sharing her passion for hand-built ceramics, sustainable materials, and process-driven creativity.

‼️Half-term Workshop - Scavenger Walk & Cyanotype Printing ‼️

We're thrilled to be hosting a event in collaboration with - join us tomorrow for a free family workshop, no experience required, but please do register your attendance via the link in our bio!

📆 Wednesday 27 May – Old Portsmouth Scavenger Walk & Cyanotype Workshop
📍 Meet at the Round Tower, Broad Street (PO1 2JE)
🕚 11:00am | Duration: approx. 3 hours
💸 Free!

Explore Old Portsmouth in a creative and interactive way. Starting with a guided scavenger walk through this historic area, you’ll collect textures, shapes and traces of the past. These will then be used to create beautiful cyanotype prints and rubbings. 🌿

The session finishes inside the Round Tower, where you’ll develop the prints and reflect on the work created together. No experience needed – just curiosity and a willingness to explore!

Time for another Resident Artist spotlight - the lovely Lily of , Studio 2 🧶🌸

Lily is a South Coast-based textile artist and creative business owner, specialising in bold, hand-made tufted rugs, wall hangings, mirrors, and even fashion pieces.

She studied Textiles at The Arts University Bournemouth, graduating with a BA (Hons) and a specialisation in print design, screen-printing, and tufting. It was during her final year that she discovered tufting, quickly developing a passion for the craft that inspired her to turn it into a business.

Her work combines cut-pile and loop-pile techniques, creating rich textures and depth across her designs. Colour plays a key role in her process, with a particular love for bright, uplifting shades that bring positivity and joy into everyday spaces.

Every piece is carefully handmade, with a focus on quality and detail. From bespoke commissions to ready-made collections, Lily’s aim is always to create unique, vibrant artwork that people can connect with and enjoy in their own spaces.

Alongside making, she’s passionate about sharing her skills. From her studio, Lily runs a range of tufting workshops, inviting others to experience the creativity and joy of the craft for themselves.
