We need your help!

We have been given a signed (Margaret Thatcher) House of Lords bottle of Whisky. Its provenance is perfect. It was given to one of our Patrons Harry Edwards when he was the Police Inspector in charge of security for The Palace of Westminster and during Margaret Thatcher's tenure of Downing Street. The inscription on the photograph that accompanies the bottle reads to him, his wife and family. Harry has kindly donated the bottle to the charity because he knows we are entering challenging times financially. I have seen a similar bottle raise £8,000 recently and a bottle of Margret Thatcher signed champagne went for £25,000 so quite possibly ownership of this piece of history could be viewed as an investment.

We have decided to use Crowdfunder Prize Draw to raise funds with this bottle, if you would like to support us please use the link on this post to buy some tickets, but also if you could share and spread the word through your own social media and friends.

Thank you for your help.

The South West Coastal Route – A Sponsored Walk (and camp!)

All round angler and guide Julian Chidgey is setting off on the adventure of his life and it’s all in aid of our charity.

Leaving Minehead on July 29th and carrying all required camping equipment Julian will be looking to walk the 630 mile South West Coast Path, unaided, eventually arriving in Poole, Dorset. His target is to complete this mammoth task in 30 days!

Julian is undertaking this task to support Second Chance, having switched tactics from another cause. This is a brilliant initiative and I take my hat off to Julian for putting in such a mammoth effort. With inflation and the war in Ukraine, fund raising is not straightforward at the moment but of course the children’s needs and opportunities still need catering for just the same. So this is an opportune moment to help our young people in a very real and positive way

With only a few weeks before the start of his hike Julian said ‘I’m so excited by the adventure ahead, 630 miles, 4 times the elevation of Everest and all in 30 days is going to be a huge effort. Angling has played a huge part in my own life and I’m proud to be able to give something back. I started my planning and training late last year I’m over the moon to be able to help such a life changing organisation’.

Julian is doing his own publicity and fund raising but we hope to get right behind him and make a considerable difference to his fund raising potential for us. If you want to sponsor Julian and help Second Chance go to

This Picture was taken at Great Hangman, the highest point on the whole coast path, during training. The 36litre rucksack is the actual one he will be using and has to house everything he takes with him! This is an ‘unsupported’ walk… proper stuff!!

Please come and support the band and the charity this is a lovely family event.

We are delighted to announce that the Park Gate Carol Service will be held again this year after an absence of many years apart from 2019 when it was restarted. This popular event will be held in Middle Road, Park Gate from 6pm on Monday 6th December. A very special guest will be present and the Second Chance Children's Charity will provide the band and be beneficiaries of any funds raised. As usual the traders will provide refreshments and we look forward to a good crowd to start the Christmas season in a traditional way.

For today’s , we wanted to celebrate Healthy Eating Week (14-20 June). And what better way than to show you some of the amazing vegetables grown by our youngsters over the past few summers?

Pumpkins are always a popular choice to grow from seed, as the children love carving Halloween pumpkins they have grown themselves! We’ve also harvested peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

What’s your favourite vegetable? We’d also love to hear your most popular recipes which are good for you but also delicious 😊 🍅 🥒 🥦 🌽

Today is Titchfield Tuesday.

We are fortunate to have the River Meon flow through our site.

The River Meon is a chalk stream which supports valuable wildlife habitats and species such as water crowfoot, brown trout, kingfishers and otters as well as the reed beds at Titchfield Haven.

Did you know that the word Meon is an ancient term for ‘mean’ or ‘middle’?
The river valley is popularly supposed to have been inhabited in the dark ages by the “Meonwara”, who, so spelt, sound like warriors on the march.

For our youngsters, the river gives them the opportunity to spot wildlife, paddle or swim and of course, to fish 🎣😊
