Thursday 3rd September 2026 is Merchant Navy Day

In commemoration of Merchant Navy Day, a memorial service will take place at St Georges Churchyard, Portland on Thursday 3rd September 2026 at 12.00 noon. The service will be Led by Rev Helen Harrell, Minister of Easton Methodist Church and Rev Shan Litjens.

All are most welcome and the Mayor of Portland, Councillor Pete Roper will be delighted to see you there.

There will be an opportunity to lay wreaths and the Order of Service will be available on the day.

FREE wellbeing event for Veterans - On Track - 8th October 2026 at The Tank Museum

This event is designed for all members of the armed forces community – including regulars and reserves, service families, the bereaved, service leavers, veterans, and anyone connected to life in the forces.

The focus of On Track is on community, celebrating the power of positive, supportive communities and their impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

Whether you’re looking for support for yourself or someone close to you or simply want to learn more about the resources available, On Track is here to help.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF VARIOUS ROADS, PORTLAND
FOR B-SIDE ARTS FESTIVAL 2026 PORTLAND PARADE

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to prohibit the use of the following roads by cyclists, horse riders and all mechanically propelled vehicles, except mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs in class 2 and 3, those taking part in the event and emergency vehicles, to facilitate a public event on the highway.

On Sunday 13 September 2026 between 18:30 and 20:30.

The effect of this Order will be:

[1] To impose temporary road closure on Easton Square alongside Easton Gardens on the A354
[2] To impose temporary road closure on Straits for its entirety
3] To impose temporary road closure on Wakeham for its entirety

Update from Dorset Council: TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BROADCROFT GARDENS, PORTLAND

DORSET COUNCIL has issued a Notice under Section 14 [2] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along BROADCROFT GARDENS, Portland between its junctions with Moorfield Road and Silklake Mews, a distance of approximately 30 metres.

The Notice is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise likelihood of danger to highway users.

It will come into operation on 2 September 2026 and remain in force for five days, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 4 September 2026.

This Notice will enable Openreach safe access to install 15metres of duct in the highway. On this occasion there will be no alternative route. Access will be maintained for residents.
