Pleased to have played my small part in the local campaign. Congratulations to everyone who coordinated and delivered a huge effort across the new ward of Rhondda and Ogmore.

💚💚 MacMillan walk 2024 is finally here 💚💚

If you’ve woken up and wondered what can you do today? Join us along the Taf trail with all its beauty to raise money for this wonderful cause.

💚 It’s not too late to join. All details below 👇🏼

🚌 Christine and I will be by the Rheola bus stop from around 11.50 - the bus is DUE at 11.56am - then pick ups right up to Maerdy if needed. Please let one of us know if you can’t get on this bus and need to catch the next. Transport for anyone walking for Macmillan will be free.

🚶 Adults can join for £10 and children are £5, you are welcome to pay on the JustGiving page which I’ve linked below. Please share it with your family and friends, they may want to make a donation to show their support 🥰

💚 There will also be hearts available at the start to hang a message to remember your loved ones on the tree. These are £1 each so please bring some change for those if you’d like one or a few 🫶🏼

🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️We’ve risked assessed the walk twice, things to note:
➡️ New entry point due to active travel work taking place. We will have to cross the busy road. Please be careful and do not take any risks.
➡️ Parts are still muddy but it’s all passable.
➡️ Wear appropriate footwear. The sun might be shinning but flip flops are not recommended due to the gravel/stone path.
➡️ Stay to the right as this is the path risk assessed. Only where there are forks that take you right and up do you go to your left!
➡️ At the power station building do not cross bridge, keep walking.

☀️ The weather is going to be hot & sunny please ensure you dress appropriately, get the sun cream & hats out and plenty of fluids💧Also everyone will walk at different paces please don’t push yourself - go at a pace that’s ok for you and it stops are needed take them.

👕 There are plenty of t-shirts available, please get in touch if you want one so this can be arranged. Collection can be made before hand or they can be brought to Maerdy.

🎟️ Raffle tickets will be on sale from the time people start arriving back at the Rheola but we will ensure everyone is back before any of the fun stuff starts. Don’t forget to bring some change we’re not quite big enough for Apple Pay yet 🤪

🎤 The duo will be starting at 7pm so if you’re able it would be wonderful for as many as possible to stay & watch them

🧒 Children have to leave the Rheola by 6pm. It’s a strict policy of theirs - and I imagine it will be a busy one as the weather will be so good.

We can’t wait to get together and raise as much as we can once again for such a wonderful charity 💚

At the Councils AGM this week it was an honour once again to be nominated for position of Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

I’d like to thank my fellow Cllrs for putting their trust in me to hold this position, a position I am very proud to accept.

I will continue to be fair in my role to all Cllrs regardless of our political differences, encouraging healthy debate in order to ensure that decisions are scrutinised and alternative options considered for the benefit of residents across RCT.

It's the last week to catch the latest exhibition at our Art in the Attic gallery at The Factory Porth (details below). Pop in to see the wonderful work of resident ceramic artists Dawn and Beccie

I will be fighting to win Labour's selection for the new Merthyr Tydfil and Upper Cynon seat.

But I regret that the Welsh Labour Executive has restricted the rights of party members. This is undemocratic.

There will be no branch nominations, no affiliate nominations, no in-person hustings to attend, meet candidates and vote at, and the process must be completed in such a short time.

The process agreed tramples on the rights of members in Merthyr and Cynon to take part in an inclusive and collective decision-making process.

I have serious concerns about the legitimacy and fairness of this process. I am therefore considering all options open to me at this stage.

The party's online voting tool had faced criticism for a lack of transparency in selections elsewhere, so I expect an independent online ballot provider to be used.

In addition, the option of postal votes is a must for all members, as is the opportunity to participate in an in-person hustings.

I am standing on a platform of a socialist vision for the Valleys, to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, end in-work poverty, tax the rich to fund our public services and bring rail, water, energy and mail back into the public sector, as well as tackling the climate emergency.

I will be a Voice for our Valleys.
