🎡 FOR THE FIRST TIME – A PUBLIC SEND SESSION AT NEATH GREAT FAIR 🎡

For the first time ever, we’re pleased to offer a dedicated SEND session open to the general public at Neath Great Fair.

📅 Sunday 13th September
⏰ 12pm–2pm

During these two hours, the fair will operate in a quieter, calmer and more sensory-friendly environment, helping children, young people and adults who may find the usual sights and sounds of a busy fairground overwhelming.

🔇 No music
📢 No microphones or announcements *(except when needed for important safety or emergency announcements)
💡 Reduced lighting and flashing effects
🎡 Rides and attractions operating in a calmer environment

The session is designed to make the fair more accessible and enjoyable for people with additional and sensory needs, giving them the opportunity to experience the fun of Neath Great Fair alongside their families, parents and carers.

For many years, Neath Great Fair has had a longstanding tradition of opening free of charge on Friday morning for a private SEND session, with local additional needs pupils from local schools invited to attend. This will continue as usual this year.

However, those invitations aren’t dealt with by ourselves, meaning schools from further afield can sometimes miss out on the opportunity. And, being a school session, it doesn't give children and young people the opportunity to enjoy the quieter fairground environment alongside their own families.

Sunday’s public SEND session is an additional opportunity that we’re delighted to introduce this year, opening the sensory-friendly experience to everyone who may benefit from it.

❤️ Please help us spread the word. If you know somebody who could benefit from this session, tag them or let them know. We really don’t want anybody to miss out.

Mae trefn gyson yn rhoi teimlad diogel i blant ac yn gwneud pethau’n llawer mwy esmwyth wrth fynd yn ôl i’r ysgol. 🌟

For younger children, simple bedtime routines can help them feel settled and secure.

Let older children know what to expect from their school day - who will drop them off, pick them up, and what they’ll do when they get home.

And just like that… it’s back-to-school week! 🎒

For many students, returning to school means seeing friends, meeting new teachers and getting back into familiar routines. But for others, it can also mean navigating a huge amount of sensory information all at once.

Busy corridors, noisy lunch halls, changes in routine and new classroom environments can all add to the demands of the school day.

As everyone settles back in, take time to notice, listen and stay curious about what might be happening beneath the surface.

Here’s to a positive and sensory-inclusive start to the new school year. 💙

The first day of school can bring lots of big feelings.

Cyffro, nerfau, a phopeth yn y canol.

Here are a few simple ways to help your child be ready:

👚 Practice getting dressed and packing their school bag – gad iddyn nhw ddod yn gyfarwydd â gwisgo’u gwisg ysgol neu bacio’u bag er mwyn teimlo mwy o reolaeth.

⏰ Start easing into a simple morning routine - gosoda amseroedd cyson ar gyfer deffro, cael brecwast ac ymbaratoi.

💬 Share books or stories about starting school - mae straeon yn gallu eu helpu i ddychmygu mynd i’r ysgol.

💛 Most of all, listen and reassure – maen nhw’n dilyn dy arweiniad di.
