Hello everyone! We hope you’ve all had a lovely summer.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy preparing for our upcoming performance at the Seafood and Sounds Festival. We’re delighted to announce that, for our next production of Mayhem at the Inn, Scaplen’s Travelling Players will be returning to Scaplen’s Court in Poole — where it all began in 2019 with our very first play. It’s been a long-awaited return, and we’re extremely grateful. We hope this will become a regular venue for future productions.

The turnout for auditions was excellent, and we’re thrilled to have such a strong cast. Rehearsals are going very well, and we’re especially pleased to welcome four new members to the team.

Take a look below for information on how to attend and book your FREE tickets. Don’t miss this exciting event! Join us for an unforgettable experience as our talented cast brings local history to life through storytelling, music and theatre. Enjoy a selection of sea shanties performed by the Scaplen’s Singers, along with two captivating stories: Robert’s adventurous voyage to Newfoundland at just 13 years old in 1621, and Jane’s recollection of growing up near Holes Bay in 1632. This will be followed by our play, Mayhem at the Inn.

Programme
• Mayhem at the Inn, written by Don and Katy Nutt
• A selection of sea shanties performed by the singers
• Storytelling from Robert (1621) and Jane (1632)

Performed by Scaplen’s Community Players — a local historical theatre group celebrating storytelling, drama and music.

Dates
Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September

Times
1:00pm and 3:00pm (each performance lasts approximately 1 hour)

Venue
Scaplen’s Court, Sarum Street, Poole BH15 1JW

⚠️ IMPORTANT UPDATE: TONIGHT’S POOLE QUAY FIREWORKS CANCELLED ⚠️

Please be aware that tonight’s Poole Quay Summer Fireworks (Thursday 20th August) will not be taking place. BCP Council has made the difficult decision to cancel this week’s events across both Poole and Bournemouth. (You can read their full statement at the end of this post).

We share your disappointment, as the Poole Quay fireworks are a much-loved summer tradition, but protecting our local environment and easing the pressure on our emergency services is the top priority right now.

Poole Quay’s brilliant restaurants, pubs, and historic waterfront remain open for a great evening out! We just ask that everyone stays vigilant and helps us keep our town and surrounding heathlands safe:
🚫 Absolutely no open fires or BBQs
🚭 Dispose of all smoking materials safely

Thank you for your support and understanding! ❤️⚓

Official Statement from BCP Council:
“Following a number of discussions in recent days, a decision has been made to cancel the upcoming fireworks at Poole Quay (20 August) and Bournemouth beach (21 August).
Although patches of rain are forecast for the coming days, there is still a significantly increased risk of wildfires as a result of an excessive period of hot and dry weather.
This increased risk is putting pressure on emergency services across the region.
We’re grateful for the public’s understanding as we all play our part in keeping our communities, open spaces and emergency services safe during these heightened conditions.”

So much going on including an open day at Poole’s Upton House☀️

The summer holidays are in full swing, and while the temperatures might be a little kinder this week, there's still plenty happening across BCP to keep everyone entertained! ☀️🎉

🎆 This weekend's headline events include BSO Proms and Summer Sounds. Today and tomorrow (7-8 August), the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra brings the magic of the Proms to Meyrick Park, while Summer Sounds takes over Poole Quay across Saturday and Sunday (8-9 August) with live music and a great waterfront atmosphere.

🎨 Today (7 August) starts with Paintings at the Bandstand in Christchurch, 8am-6pm, while the BCHA Festival of Wellbeing takes place in Boscombe Chine Gardens from 1-4pm, offering an afternoon focused on wellbeing and community.
🚗 In the evening, head to Poole Quay Car Night, 6-9pm, before rounding off the day with Bournemouth's Friday Night Fireworks at Pier Approach from 7.30pm.
🎶 If beachside music is more your thing, Friday Vibes returns to SOBO Beach from 5-7pm, followed by sunset DJ sets.

💃 Saturday (8 August) brings plenty of variety. Join Latin Beats at SOBO Beach from 6-9.30pm, with Latin music, dancing and sunset views.
🚴 Sports fans can catch the Bournemouth BMX Club Race at Iford BMX Track, while those looking to support local good causes can drop donations to the Win on Waste collection event at Makkah in Ashley Road, 10.30am-12pm.
🎵 You'll also find live music at the Lower Gardens Bandstand and throughout Summer Sounds on Poole Quay.

🚤 Sunday (9 August) features the popular Mudeford RNLI Fun Day on Mudeford Quay Green, 11am-5pm, alongside live music at Fisherman's Walk and the Lower Gardens Bandstand.
🏛️ You can also explore Upton House Open Day, where visitors can enjoy free admission, browse gifts and books, and even join a guided tour of the historic house.

🎈 Looking for ways to keep the children entertained? Get Up & Bounce returns to Upton Country Park Monday-Wednesday 10.30am-4pm, with inflatables, giant games and a splash fountain in the Walled Garden.

🎨 On Monday, children can get creative at the Mathematical Art Summer Sessions at Moordown Community Centre.

🎉 Tuesday (11 August) brings the Christchurch Foodbank Family Fun Day at Watermans Park, while Poole Quay Bike Night returns from 5.30-10pm.

💡 On Wednesday (12 August), the Poole Roadshow offers free energy advice and health checks outside NatWest on Poole High Street, while the Russell-Cotes Museum hosts another of its popular Workshop Wednesdays sessions.

🎆 Then on Thursday (13 August), enjoy the return of Summer Fireworks on Poole Quay, and browse local artisan stalls at the Summer Makers Market in Upton Country Park's Walled Garden, running on 13 and 14 August.

As always, this is just a selection of what's happening locally, and not all events are organised by BCP Council. Have a great week and enjoy the summer holidays! ☀️✨
