24/10/26 11.15am
πŸ“Ÿ Unattended RHIB
πŸ“East Dorset Sailing Club

Tasked by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to the above location. A member of the sailing club on arrival in the morning, had found a RHIB tied to the slipway. The individual recovered the RHIB and began making enquiries around the sailing club. A 999 call was made via PHC. The JRCC requested that the team meet with the FIF (First Informant) and gather information to formulate a potential lost and missing person search plan. On arrival at the club, we liaised with the FIF. That information and photos were passed to the JRCC. Southbourne Coastguard Team arrived on scene for additional support. Whilst communicating with the JRCC, the owner of the RHIB returned to the location. The individual was safe and well and had come ashore from a vessel moored near to Brownsea Island. With confirmation that this was their RHIB and there were no concerns for welfare. The individual was asked to take care returning to their vessel, passed safety advice and the member of the sailing club assisted with the individual and vessel. With JRCC content on our actions, we stood down and returned to our station.

πŸ“Whittley Lake

Requested by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre from the previous incident to investigate and gather information of a vessel aground at the above location. Once on scene an individual was seen, laying out the anchor chain/line then heading back to the shore. The team relocated and spoke to the individual, a member of public windsurfing in the area had kindly gone to the vessel and laid the anchor, enabling the vessel to be more secure once the tide had risen. The individual passed the vessel's name and information of its condition. We thanked the individual, and updated JRCC, who contacted PHC. With the vessel secured and monitored by PHC, and the vessel owner being traced. We stood down and returned to our station with thanks.

We were tasked the next day to another incident within the same area, where information was passed to us, that the owners had been contacted and had managed to arrange for the recovery of the vessel, back to it's mooring without any damage.

Tasked to the above location by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to investigate and gather information in reference to a 999 call made from a local vessel, that had reported seeing a unoccupied small RHIB drifting towards Hook Sands. Once on scene, a team was deployed to a vantage point to try to gain a visual and then the possible escalation of the incident requiring other HMCG assets.
The FIF (First Informant) was contacted by our OIC (Officer In Charge) and more information gathered. With nothing untoward seen, several fishing vessels in the bay, no reports via Dorset Police of missing person/s and no further 999 calls. The JRCC were content with our actions and just before being stood down, we were then requested to attend another incident.

πŸ“Twin Sails Bridge

Requested by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre after a 999 call had been made by a worker near the above location, in reference to two individuals on the trot mooring/pontoon trying to re-secure a vessel that had broken a mooring line. Due to the weather conditions and the location, we were asked to get eyes on the individuals and ensure if needed a rapid response or assistance it was available.
We maintained a watch, the two individuals managed to secure one vessel and we were planning on helping another vessel. A local RHIB owner had also been able to assist. We left the scene with the individuals not in difficulties and aware that concerns for their safety had been made. The JRCC requested PHC to monitor their activity on our departure.

Take extra care as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo approach ⚠️

Storm Austen is set to arrive overnight and into the morning of Friday 23 October. An amber weather warning for wind has been issued for Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and parts of west Devon, with further weather warnings in place across the UK.

Over the weekend, Storm Boelo will bring more strong winds and heavy rain, with the strongest winds expected across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England.

Check the latest weather forecast and warnings before heading to the coast. If conditions are unsafe, save your trip for another day.

Always stay away from cliff edges as sudden gusts can cause you to lose your balance. Avoid the base of cliffs as rocks can fall without warning and watch out for flying debris.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
