We're sending out a massive congratulations to Christopher "Toph" Hay as he closes the chapter on an incredible 19-year career as a Fire Service Mechanic!

For nearly two decades, Toph has been the driving force behind keeping our vehicles on the run and ready to respond.

His knowledge, his pride in every job, and his willingness to go the extra mile have been the backbone of our operations.

From late-night callouts and tricky faults to everyday fixes — and even just his steady, reliable presence in the workshop — Toph has delivered time and time again.

Toph, thank you for your hard work, your humour, and your unwavering dedication over the years. Your craftsmanship and support have made a difference to so many, and the impact of your work will be felt long after today.

Wishing you nothing but the best in this next chapter — you've more than earned it!

Cornwall Council are looking to recruit a EWS Workshop Mechanic.

The role is based at Tolvaddon Service Headquarters, working in a team of 14 Engineer Workshops and Stores personnel who support the frontline fleet and services.

The role holder will need to be an are excellent communicator, relationship builder and value the diversity of our teams to understand how to maximise our service delivery options.

The position will involve providing maintenance & repair expertise over a wide range including, mechanical, auto electrical, pneumatic & hydraulic disciplines.

Salary: £29,592 - £36,655

Following COVID, CFRS have a number of P3 facemasks, disposable overalls, disposable overshoes and cleaning gel/sprays available. If there are groups, charities or individuals that would like any of this free of charge please come to CFRS emergency workshops at Tolvaddon between 09:00 and 15:30 and ask for Sean Ross.
This offer will run until 31 May 2024. Items will be issued on a “first come first served” basis

Throughout this cold season our technicians remain on-call to maintain round the clock cover to keep Cornwall’s fire appliance ‘on the run’.

Please remember to take extra care when driving out on the roads during this cold weather. 🚨🛠🚒

Over the last few months we’ve been keeping on top of servicing and repairing various defects. This week we’ve had Newquay Community Fire Station’s ALP in for some LED upgrades on the cage lighting to assist in future incidents! 🚒🛠🚨

Over the last month we’ve been extremely busy keeping on top of defects. We’ve also got St Mawes’ first away in for gearbox repair and St Austell Community Fire Station’s operational support in for a head gasket repair.

We’ve also been working on our ‘white’ spare giving it a full fuel tank clean to make sure she continues to run smoothly! 🚒🚨🛠
