πŸ’™πŸ’› UKRAINE COLLECTION UPDATE πŸ’™πŸ’›

Thank you to the residents of Ponteland and the surrounding area for your generous contributions of essential items to those affected by the events in Ukraine.

We have received large amount of items including clothing, tinned food, toys and nappies which are now on their way to the Council's central collection point to be sorted and shipped. The photo below is the overflow from our main storeroom which was full of items!

Because of this great response and as the operation moves into the next phase we will be stopping our collection point and the blue bins outside our station will be removed shortly and after that time we will be unable to accept any further items.

Thank you again for your tremendous support.

It was a busy night for the Service and the Ponteland crew were out most of the evening attending calls through out the area and also supporting other stations.

We still need more crew though to help us keep the appliance available 24x7. The application window has now closed for our February 2022 course however we're pleased to report that we have several candidates going through the selection tests and who will hopefully make it onto the course.

Firefighters across Northumberland were faced with a busy Bonfire Night as their fire control handled 343 calls.
Crews attended 60 bonfires but there were no serious instances of abusive or violent behaviour.

Keith Carmichael, who was a Crew Manager here at Ponteland, has turned off his alerter for one last time after completing an impressive 28 years of service to Ponteland and the surrounding area.

We are grateful for your service, sense of humour and commitment but also for the sacrifice that his family has had to sometimes endure such as all those disrupted mealtimes and disturbed nights and not knowing when you`d be back.

So thank you Keith and thank you Carmichael's.

You`ve left a big hole on station and will be greatly missed.

If you`re still not sure and have some questions about what being an On Call Firefighter entails then pop down on any Monday Night at 7pm and we'd be more than happy to answer them.

An On-callβ€―firefighter responds to a range of emergencies. They do everyday jobs until the call comes, they then become professional firefighters.Β

Congratulations to Gary on passing 4 weeks of intensive training to become Ponteland's newest recruit and will be part of the crew protecting Ponteland and the wider area from next week.

We still have room for more in our shiny new fire station so get in touch via this page if you want further details.

The closing date for applications for the next recruit course in March is end of this month so there's only a few days left.

Congratulations to our newest cohort of Trainee Firefighters who successfully passed their Breathing Apparatus phase today.
They now move on to serve their local communities at Bellingham, Berwick, Ponteland, Hexham and Rothbury. πŸ‘πŸ”₯
