130 years ago today Alfriston Clergy House became the first building saved for the nation by the then newly formed National Trust . On April 16th, 1896, the adventure started with Octavia Hill one of our three founders, very much driving the restoration of this special property. Working with architect Alfred Powell, this beautiful Wealden Hall house was carefully restored saving it from dereliction and protecting it for future generations. All the team here are very proud to continue the work to help look after this wonderful property.
To mark this very special year there are lots of exciting events, tours and talks taking place celebrating the Clergy House and its 130 years of National Trust history. Please visit our website for full details https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/sussex/alfriston-clergy-house
