The group were joined by other young people from London, Bradford and Cambridge who have also been involved in the project. The groups got involved in poetry workshops with the Plymouth Laureate, Polynesian bug handling and trips to the Barbican and the Hoe to see where Mai would have visited in Plymouth. The youth group have produced a quilt illustrating what is important to them about Plymouth. They created it as gift to send home with Mai if he were here today. ⭐CARERS WEEK 2026 - BUILDING A BETTER COMMUNITY ⭐

To celebrate Carers Week 2026 we asked our young carers to build a wall of community, including features they believe would improve their experience of growing up as a carer.

Their suggestions including healthy lifestyle ideas such as quicker diagnosis time frames, more opportunities for sport and support with sleep habits which in turn would improve their mental health. We discussed the impact of social media and they suggested the world would be a better place with more kindness, dignity and support for each other 💞

New Wednesday sessions at EFford Youth Centre!

Plymouth Cancer Champions Workshop
This is a relaxed, informal session where people can come together to talk, ask questions, and find out more about cancer and the support available locally — whether for themselves or someone they care about.
The sessions are led by Kirsty, Cancer Champions Coordinator for the Plymouth Cancer Champions project funded by Macmillan.
You are very welcome to come along to the workshop, and after the workshop you are also welcome to become a Cancer Champion if you’d like to.
Being a Cancer Champion simply means having access to ideas and information that can help support everyday conversations about cancer, helping to make those conversations a bit more open and comfortable, and encouraging people to get symptoms checked or attend screening when invited. There is no expectation to be an expert or take on anything extra.
Whether you’re coming for yourself, a loved one, or simply to find out more, you would be very welcome. All are welcome.

At Honicknowle Youth Centre, seven incredible young people took part in the Reworked Project, led by Jessica Campbell-Plover - Artist and Designer. Starting with a blank jacket, they transformed their designs into something truly unique.

Along the way, they developed valuable skills such as using a sewing machine, hemming, and stitching, while demonstrating fantastic commitment by dedicating five weeks to the project.
This project was made possible through the generous funding of Ray Morton For Honicknowle Ward., whom we would like to thank for supporting this opportunity.

The project created a safe and supportive space where young people could build confidence and enhance their wellbeing through creative expression. The outcomes were incredible, with each jacket reflecting individuality, identity, and the hard work invested throughout the process.

To celebrate their achievements, the group took part in a fun fashion photoshoot, giving them the opportunity to showcase their designs with pride and confidence.

This will be the first of many creative projects for young people across the city.
