As children return to school, we are asking everyone to play their part in keeping the roads around our schools safe.
Parking too close to school entrances, on zig-zag lines, pavements or near crossings can reduce visibility and make it difficult for children to safely see and be seen when crossing the road.
Please remember:
🚗 Park responsibly and legally – avoid stopping where restrictions are in place.
👀 Keep crossings and junctions clear – give children the best possible view of approaching traffic.
🚸 Slow down and stay alert – children can be unpredictable, particularly at busy drop-off and pick-up times.
🚶 Encourage safe crossing – remind children to use designated crossings.
🤝 Think safeguarding – a few extra minutes walking can make a significant difference to everyone’s safety.
Our priority is the safety of children, families and the wider school community. By parking considerately and driving responsibly, we can all help make the journey to and from school safer.
Please park with care. Protect our children. Keep our school communities safe.

Kind Regards

Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Whether you’re leaving the south west or coming to visit, have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday road trip.

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.

🚗 Have a great bank holiday! 😎

We often hear the comment: “We don’t see the police patrolling anymore.”

The Estover & Leigham neighbourhood team covers a large geographical area, so a lot of our patrols are carried out by vehicle. However, when we reach our destinations, we get out and walk the areas, speak to residents and businesses, and engage with our communities.

Here’s an example of my patrol yesterday 👇 Some of it was on foot, and some of it was by vehicle.
It was a busy day, fitting in:

🚶‍♀️ Foot patrols
🚗 Mobile patrols across the area
🏠 House visits
📋 Admin — and yes, we do have a lot of it!
📞 Deployment to jobs
🤝 Meetings with partner agencies

Neighbourhood policing isn’t always about being visible on foot at every moment of the day. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes, alongside the patrols and community engagement.
So, if you don’t see us walking past your door, it doesn’t mean we aren’t out there. We cover a large area, respond to incidents, visit residents, work with partner agencies and carry out targeted patrols based on local issues and intelligence.

We’re out there — sometimes on foot, sometimes in a police vehicle, and sometimes doing the less visible work that keeps our communities safe. 💙

Eclipse! | Keep yourself and everyone else safe

😎 Sound advice about watching the eclipse on Wednesday from David Jones, Consultant Ophthalmologist with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Click on the link.

🚗 If you are traveling to a vantage point to watch, please park safely and responsibly in official car parks and marked areas, don’t cause an obstacle by parking on verges, kerbs or pavements. Emergency vehicles need access everywhere at all times 🚑

🔥 Avoid the use of barbecues and be careful with disposing of ci******es, especially in countryside locations – it’s tinder dry out there. Please take your litter home with you.

☀️ Enjoy this rare and stunning event safely and responsibly.

🚓 What a fantastic day at the Manadon Sports and Community Hub Family Fun Day! ☀️

A big thank you to everyone who came along and stopped by the Devon & Cornwall Police stand. It was great to meet so many local families and be part of such a brilliant community event.

Our officers had a wonderful time chatting with children and adults, answering questions about policing, and giving visitors the chance to:
👮 Try on some police equipment
🚔 Explore one of our police vehicles
🚁 Learn about the specialist technology and drones we use to help keep our communities safe

It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and curious minds. Events like these are a great opportunity to build relationships, inspire future generations, and show the people behind the uniform.

A huge thank you to Argyle Trust, all the organisers, volunteers, stallholders and everyone who helped make the day such a success.
We look forward to seeing you at the next community event! 👋
