Our team in the Durham office very kindly arranged parcels to send to military personal stationed abroad, as part of our Armed Forces day event. We supported by taking part in the shoebox appeal.

"I'm Rich.

I’m a User Centred Design apprentice at HM Land Registry. Coming from a retail background with a limited amount of IT experience, I felt that I might possibly be out of my depth with the technical aspects of the role, particularly with coding and presenting to stakeholders. Since day one, I have received a tremendous level of support from colleagues and other designers within the community, which has helped build my confidence and skills to a level that I’m really proud of. Each working day, I’m able to learn something new from shadowing industry professionals, and they’re always readily available to answer any questions that I have.

Starting this apprenticeship was the best decision I’ve ever made, as I feel that I’m now working towards a career in a field that I’m truly passionate about, in an organisation that is extremely supportive of its employees.”

"I’m Sam.

I recently completed a 12-month IT Student Placement at HM Land Registry. During my time as a placement student, I learnt more than I imagined I ever would. I was given the freedom to work in multiple areas across the company, where I could truly get a feel for how a large-scale IT office functioned.
A typical day for me involved spending time with other team members to solve complex and challenging problems, along with engaging in conversations and discussions during meetings for general planning and refinement of upcoming work.

My placement year enabled me to get an idea of what working life will be like in the future, along with giving me an opportunity to secure a job for when I graduate. Additionally, I saw my grades at University increase significantly from both the additional knowledge gained from colleagues and from the skills I acquired completing various projects."

As a Cyber Security Management student at Bournemouth University, I have choices to make about where I work after graduation. My placement at HM Land Registry has been an invaluable starting ground for building my career.

The work in the Digital, Data and Technology directorate is varied, engaging and diverse. I’ve been allocated long-term projects and quick tasks, so I am always busy.
The flexible working hours are also invaluable. The freedom to manage my own time has increased my sense of responsibility and boosted my feeling of ownership. This has helped me balance work with my personal life, so I still can enjoy some of the perks of student life.

At any time, I can shadow someone, ask further questions or request different work; everyone is more than happy to help. The support here is great and I’d highly recommend the IT student Placement!"
