👏 We’re incredibly proud to celebrate one of the city’s outstanding leaders as Emma Hewitt, Plymouth City Council’s Skills Lead, has been awarded an MBE in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours! 👏

Emma has made an extraordinary impact on Plymouth, helping thousands of residents access training, education, and careers while supporting businesses to grow with the skills they need. Her work has transformed how the city connects people with opportunity and built a stronger, more resilient workforce for the future.

From launching the award-winning Building Plymouth partnership to creating Skills Launchpad Plymouth during the pandemic - now a nationally recognised model - Emma has consistently brought people and organisations together to deliver real change. Her leadership has also helped grow partnerships like Caring Plymouth and Welcoming Plymouth, supporting key sectors across the city.

Beyond her day job, Emma has gone above and beyond for Plymouth’s communities, leading major projects, supporting recovery efforts, and championing social impact across the city.

This is an incredibly well-deserved honour that recognises years of passion, collaboration and dedication to Plymouth and its people. 💙

📢 Test alert for Plymouth residents - 17 June

Thousands of phones in Plymouth will receive a test emergency alert on Wednesday as part of a routine safety exercise for Devonport dockyard.

📱 The test helps agencies prepare for the unlikely event of a radiation emergency.
💊 Some nearby homes may also receive leaflets to simulate the distribution of stable iodine tablets.
✋ No action is needed if you receive a text alert or leaflet.
📍 If you live near Devonport or Cattedown and aren’t signed up to the alerts, you can register on our website: https://bit.ly/4ehGNF1

Over the coming weeks, homes within the Detailed Emergency Planning Zone, which extends 1.5km from the submarine berths, will also receive an updated information booklet.

📅 A six week consultation on the zoning for Plymouth’s proposed new heat networks in now underway.

Heat networks, sometimes known as district heating, distribute heat from centralised sources through a network of underground pipes, providing buildings with heating, hot water and, in some cases, cooling.

The consultation will focus on two heat network zone boundaries, one that covers some of the southern and western parts of the city, and another in the north around Derriford.

The consultation will primarily engage businesses, industry and large building owners, although residents and people who work in the zones are also invited to share their views.

We’re passionate about Plymouth being a city that provides the best environment and chances for everyone to thrive as they age.

Age Without Limits Day today is a great opportunity for us all to think about challenging stereotypes about ageing and seeing older people as valued members of our community.

Our Ageing Well Hub provides lots of useful information about activities and support that can help us to age well. Check it out here: https://bit.ly/4vEQ0OW
