⚽️ Last Saturday, I had an amazing time in my role as Lord Mayor of Plymouth alongwith my guest Hazel Lynch, having been invited to attend the Devon Junior & Minor League (DJM) Presentation Evening.

It was an absolute privilege to present awards to so many young people and to celebrate their achievements.
I was amazed by the 100's of trophies on display and by the thousands of young people and their families gathered together in one room.

The DJM statistics are remarkable. The league has around 7,423 registered players, including 1,383 girls, with more than 580 teams taking part.✨️
Supporting this enormous undertaking are more than 1,200 volunteers who give their time week in, week out to ensure young people have the opportunity to play, learn and develop through sport. 👏👏👏

For me, the DJM League represents everything that is good about youth sport and the values we should be instilling in our young people: discipline, teamwork, leadership, communication and respect.

The dedication shown by everyone involved is truly inspiring, and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved.
I would particularly like to say well done and thank you to
President Bernard Leach
Chairman Steve Avery,
General Secretary Mark Rolwes
Vice Chairman Steve Conteh,
Treasurer Nicola Rolwes and Assistant Secretary Sarah Brooks.
Along with the many other board members, volunteers, coaches, referees and supporters who help provide such fantastic opportunities for our young people.

Thank you for the invitation and for everything you do to make such a positive difference to the lives of thousands of young people across Devon.

It was a fantastic experience to be on Hospital Radio Plymouth. 🎶🎶🎶

Sharing a bit of my backstory, future plans as Mayor and blasting some of my favorite rock and metal tunes made it all the better. 🤟

Huge thanks to Keith Jolley, Chris Warne, and all the incredible volunteers who brighten people’s days with requests and smiles—your work is truly appreciated!

Especially during Men's Health Week, it was fantastic to connect with the The Eddystone Trust - HIV & Sexual Health

Learning more about HIV and breaking down taboos is crucial. 🙏

I truly value Matthew's time and the opportunity to better understand the issue and help spread awareness.
If you have any questions the team are very friendly and knowledgeable. 👏👏

Well done for all the great work.

Commemorating the 44th anniversary of the Falklands Campaign and Liberation Day.

Today, as Lord Mayor of Plymouth, it was both an honour and a privilege to commemorate the Falklands Campaign and Liberation Day alongside so many true heroes.

To meet, greet and speak with veterans and service personnel who gave so much in service to our country was something I will never forget. Their courage, sacrifice and dedication helped shape history and protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

It is vitally important that we continue to remember our history, honour those who never made it home, and never forget the bravery of those standing before us who answered the call of duty with unwavering commitment and pride.
Today our Veterans, serving members, community and friends did a poignant remembrance with the Standard bearers and Buglar adding greatly to the occasion.

As Mayor of Plymouth, I cannot thank these heroes enough past and present. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my time in office to stand amongst them, hear their stories and pay tribute to their service.

The Falklands is British, and the Falklands will always remain British.

We will remember them. 🇬🇧

🌟 It was absolutely excellent and inspiring to be in a room full of great people doing great things at the Barn Barton Family Hub, Man Cave event today accompanied by Cllr Alison Simpson today.

A huge thank you to Mike, the Community Builder - Barne Barton & St Budeaux for the kind invite and warm welcome. It was fantastic to get around all of the stalls and listen to so many positive and uplifting stories from people and organisations dedicated to assisting and helping others in our communities.

A big thank you also goes to all of the stallholders who took the time to explain what they are doing and how they are looking to support people across our amazing city. The passion, care and commitment shown by everyone involved was truly inspiring including.

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Marine Academy Primary school to the Council House and Mayor’s Office today.

The children were a real credit to their school, teachers, and parents, showing fantastic confidence, excellent manners, and a genuine interest in the history of Plymouth and how the Council works.
Their questions were thoughtful, engaging, and incredibly impressive.
More so their answers to my questions, when I asked one young man why he wanted to be his school Parliamentary representative he simply stated "I want to care for people". ❤️👏 100% loved hearing this.

I was especially delighted to see so many young people willing to stand up and speak with confidence during their visit to the Council Chambers — the future of Plymouth is certainly bright with young ambassadors like these.

Thank you to all the staff and organisers for making the visit possible, and well done once again to every pupil who attended.
To the parents, your kids did you very proud ! 😊🏛️✨
