Currently falling down fences, incomplete fences around the ponds, huge piles of rubble taking up whole fields where we used to walk, run, or play field games on... it is a disgrace to not finish such a job!!

Today I was out for a run and shocked to see some very careless road-sense from a family cycling along the pavement on Mutley Plain - they cycled up to the junction next to Co-op:

i) the dad (with a baby in a basket on the handlebars) prodeeded to cross the busy road, on his bike, without looking - he almost got hit by a turning car, but oblivious to it....
the mum and 10yr-old paused briefly, then;

ii) the mum proceeded to cycle across between cars of a flow of traffic -
neither parent looked back to check on each other, or the 10yr-old.

iii) finally the son, who got left behind, took the risk, cutting across more cars to catch up his parents....

I couldn't believe what I'd seen.... I waited for a safe opportunity to cross for myself whilst still shocked at the real potential of a nasty incident

Regardless of what the newer laws say on rights of way it's still sensible to look out for hazards from cars and follow safe road sense - it's just wrong for a motorist to take responsibility for the stupidity of pedestrians like these (or pedestrians on top of bikes) - but a well done to all of those who managed to avoid a collision today with this family.

The rest centre is now open at the Life Centre

If you are leaving home today due to the evacuation and require any help or support – please go to there and staff will be able to help.

👶Creche
🧒 Room for 9-17 year olds
🛐 Faith room
👋 Help point for those needing somewhere to stay
☕ Tea, coffee, water and catering
🧴 Blankets, towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste

A free shuttle bus, provided by Plymouth Citybus will pick up throughout this morning starting at 8am and take people to the Life Centre who do not have access to their own transport. Buses will pick up at Wolseley Road (Wolseley Road Flats outbound), Saltash Road (St Johnstone Social Club inbound) and St Levan Road (Ryder Road inbound). Buses will be every 15 minutes.

Please remember - if you need help or support evacuating - please call: 01752 668000.

If you are driving to the Life Centre, you can park at the Milehouse Park and Ride for the duration - no parking tickets will be issued. There is enough free parking available at this car park for anyone being evacuated and need to leave their car.

We are also getting lots of offers from people who would like to volunteer at the Rest Centre or offer donations. Thank you so much for those offers, but we have ample staff from the Council and partners. At this time no further support is needed. We will update if the situation changes.
