Eleven libraries across Plymouth now offer blood pressure monitor kits that you can borrow, just like a book, to check your blood pressure at home.
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, often has no obvious symptoms. Many people do not realise they have it until it leads to a serious health problem, such as a heart attack or stroke.
Checking your blood pressure regularly can help identify any concerns early. If your readings are consistently high, seek advice from a healthcare professional, who can recommend any further tests or treatment you may need.
Each kit includes:
- a blood pressure monitor
- cleaning wipes
- instructions on how to use the monitor and take readings
- a blood pressure recording diary
- advice on what to do if your blood pressure is too high
You can reserve a monitor online through the library website or the Plymouth Libraries app and collect it from your chosen library when it becomes available. Alternatively, ask library staff about availability.
The monitors are intended to help you monitor your blood pressure and encourage regular checks. They do not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
