Amid the controversey of Palantir & other global (US) tech companies infiltrating & running our public services, in an excellent Green Isles piece James Baker of Open Rights Group sets out an ecology of digital sovereignty, what a community-owned domestic tech infrastructure might look like.

Siân Berry MP spoke to Green Isles in a wide-ranging interview about Palantir, digital sovereignty, and why more MPs need to realise that digital rights is about protecting our personal privacy, our public services and our national security. And also on why taking on the likes of Palantir is an issue that speaks to the heart of Green politics.

Green Isles editor Matt Hanley speaks to Green MP Siân Berry. “Palantir has openly stated their intention to exploit and subjugate the British public for profit and power…“ Palantir Technologies started out as a CIA-funded data intelligence company. Today it holds contracts worth over £670 m...

New post: Political ecology and Green politics

Political ecology was the main theoretical framework of my PhD in resource conservation in East Africa. And the more I read the more I realised that a political ecology analysis fundamentally underpins much of Green politics.

Political ecology asks the uncomfortable questions about power, profit, and justice within the relationship of people and their environment that mainstream politics would rather avoid. And this reflects much of how Greens instinctively frame an issue while looking for policy answers.

It is a quite a dense academic discipline, but it's so important to a class analysis for the 21st Century of climate breakdown, soaring inequality, biodiversity destruction and rising fascism that we as Greens need to start thinking about how political ecology can challenge the mainstream neoliberal consensus in national political conversations.

So this is my attempt. https://greenisles.substack.com/p/political-ecology-and-green-politics
