This is our engine that was supplied by The Petworth Engineering Company in the 1920s to an unknown customer.

We were delighted to be able to buy it last autumn to add to our collection.

The banners are up, the scones are ordered, the cream and strawberry jam have been purchased and the craft and activities are ready........

The stationary engines and tractors are looking forward to joining us - and we are excited that we will have a chance to have our 'Petworth Engine' on show and running for the first time.........

We purchased the Ruston-Hornsby engine last autumn after a generous response from friends to an appeal for donations. This engine was supplied by The Petworth Engineering Company that were in East Street in 1927. -

P.S. - don't forget to buy dad a cream tea !

NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS DAY - thanking our volunteers πŸ‘πŸ‘

A big shout out for our activities and education team πŸ˜„

Coultershaw is such a fantastic site based around the River Rother and mill pond - there is so much to see and explore! On our special event days our team of volunteers organise and help with activities for children with craft and the ever popular water chute !

The team also welcome schools for a range of activities that explore the site and fit with different aspects of the curriculum. Making cork boats to sail down the water chute is always popular and the children learn about the movement of water and the different types of waterwheels.

Our Wind in the Willows trail is popular as children find the 8 boards and complete the tasks in the trail guide - and then collect their goody bag!

A big thank you to our activities and education team who give of their time and energy to bring Coultershaw to life for our young visitors: Michelle, Chris, Charlotte, Jackie, Judith and others.

This is the last of five posts this week thanking our volunteers and we haven't yet mentioned all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes - or Ruth who runs the pop-up coffee shops on our special event days.πŸ˜ƒ

National Volunteers Week - thanking our volunteers πŸ‘πŸ‘

The volunteer researchers in the Coultershaw Heritage Study Centre work hard producing exhibitions and articles on a variety of topics related to Petworth and the Rother Valley. This research takes time, patience and commitment.

This work is not just for now, but will add to our collective knowledge for the future. In the medium term it will inform the History of the Rother Valley exhibition for our new space in the South Warehouse. In the longer term it will be part of the Coultershaw Collection Archive and be available for future generations.

Thank you to our research team, particularly Hazel, and all those who have had input into the research and provided support - what you are doing will inform the future about the past. Well done.
