That's it done for 2026 ! Another season finished - 25 open days including 11 special events - that's 137.5 hours open to welcome visitors to the beautiful Coultershaw site.

We are so grateful to our wonderful team of volunteers who gave over 350 hours of their time to make this happen.

We have started to plan for our 2027 season, so watch this space 🙂

Well worth a visit !

In December 1878, Florence Tiplady married Stephen Rapley. They moved into the former Turnpike Cottage just to the north west of the bridge across the Rother by the mill at Coultershaw. A few weeks later, in February, she wrote a poem about their newly wedded life together.

As part of our 'Everyday Lives' theme for our Heritage Open Days weekend we have mounted a copy of the poem on the boardwalk just across the road from where the cottage would have been. We are not sure if it is the Rapleys in the photo of the turnpike cottage.

It needs to be fitted higher and there are a couple of errors that need amending, but it will now form a permanent part of our interpration of the Coultershaw site.

HERITAGE WEEKEND - Coultershaw will be open 11:00-4:00 on both Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th. The beam pump will be working and visitors will be able to see all the other industrial heritage on site.

The pop-up coffee shop will be open in the warehouse and there will be children's craft and harvest mouse trail.

In the South Warehouse there is an exhibition on the theme of Everyday Lives with memories of people who have lived and worked in and around Petworth. There are also family trees from the 1870s of those living in some of the cottages at Coultershaw.

Coultershaw will have an 'Everyday Lives' exhibition when we open on the 12th & 13th September as part of the national Heritage Open Days. Come and learn about the lives of some of those who lived at Coultershaw and in Petworth & Beyond.
