Remember when Labour axed 4 school crossing patrols in 2024/25 to save money?

They said it was “one of a number of difficult decisions” needed to balance the budget.

And remember when several Labour Councillors then offered to pay for the wages of the lollipop lady at Newark Hill Primary out of their Community Leadership Funds (CLF), only to withdraw that funding one year later?

Well, here we are, two years on, and there’s a shiny new crossing outside one of the schools that had its school crossing patrol axed.

So, where has the money suddenly come from for this, if we couldn’t afford to keep the lollipop ladies, which would have cost considerably less than a brand new crossing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

✨LGR UPDATE…AND ANOTHER CHANGE OF DIRECTION!

If you’ve been trying to keep up with the Government’s plans to reorganise local councils, the latest announcement will leave your head spinning!

The Labour Government has been looking at replacing some of our existing councils with larger unitary councils. Here in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, we were still waiting for a final decision but many areas across the country were given their final decision a few weeks ago.

Well…today, the Government has pressed pause and decided to review the whole thing again!

So what does that mean for us?

👉 No new council has been decided yet.
👉 Peterborough & Cambridgeshire will now form part of the further review which has no timescales.
👉 The May 2027 local elections WILL go ahead as normal, using our existing council boundaries which means there will NOT be all out elections for a new authority as planned.

And after all the taxpayers’ money, planning, consultations and council officers’ time that has already gone into preparing for these changes, they say…

We’re reviewing the review. 😂

Thank goodness we had our local elections this year rather than having them cancelled as Labour had originally proposed.

One thing’s for sure…you couldn’t write this!

What a shambles. 🤦‍♀️
