🚨 NEW FIREFIGHTER IN TRAINING! 🚨

Please join us in welcoming Harry Jacob, who is currently undertaking the process of becoming a firefighter with Thorney Community Fire Station.

Over the weekend, Harry achieved an important milestone by successfully completing his Fire Craft assessments, allowing him to now respond and ride on the fire engine in a non–BA (Breathing Apparatus) capacity. 🚒

In the coming weeks, Harry and his coursemates will begin their Breathing Apparatus training, leading up to their final assessment which is the final step towards becoming probationary firefighters and supporting his fellow crew members.

We invite everyone to show their support and encouragement for Harry and all the recruits as they continue their journey to serve and protect our community. 👏🔥

If you’re interested in following in Harry’s footsteps please get in touch with us.

Please be our eyes and ears. Two of our stations have been broken into this week, so we're asking you, our local residents, to help us look out for any suspicious activity around our station.

Chatteris and Gamlingay fire stations were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning and Tuesday evening respectively. At Chatteris, life-saving cutting equipment used at road traffic collisions and other rescues was stolen.

Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren said: “Break-ins to fire stations are happening across the country and this week we have been victims twice. We are asking for local residents to please help be our eyes and ears, to report any suspicious activity and make a note if possible of any vehicle details including registration number, as well as descriptions of any individuals involved.

"Please also save any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage if it has captured any suspicious activity. The incidents have happened when it’s dark, in the evening and early morning. Entry has been forced, so if you hear a noise coming from one of our stations, please do just look and check to see if it is our firefighters, don’t assume it is. This support by our local communities would be greatly appreciated.”

Anyone with information is asked to visit the Cambridgeshire Constabulary website or call 101 and quote the reference 35/21532/26.

🚨Drill Night!🚨

Tonights drill was a little different, as we had Yaxley Community Fire & Rescue Station attend. Crews worked together to secure a car that had gone under another, and get 2 casualties out. 🚒

🚑Using various equipment, such as stab fasts and blocks to stabilise the vehicle they got both casualties out without a scratch on them! 🙅🏼‍♂️

Its great when stations come together for drills because there’s so many different ways we can achieve the same goals!🤩

🏗️We would like to give a big thanks to Martin Butler and Park Farm Ltd for their Telehandler and expertise to set up this drill.

Today marks another year we celebrate all of the air personnel who have lost their lives over the skies of Thorney.

It was a pleasure to attend and see all of the many visitors including lord lieutenant, various councillors, and 115 Air cadet squadron, among many others.

39 pilots and crew since 1941 have a new memorial plaque to be remembered by. It was a wonderful service hosted by michael sly and the thorney society.

🚨Drill night!🚨

Tonight saw the crew tackling a fireground based drill. Using various lengths of hose and items from the fire engine they had to tie knots, understand using hose at heights, and make sure everyone always had water! 💧

Doing these sorts of drills helps the crews to familiarise themselves with techniques, become more efficient, and helps to think on the spot‼️

If this sounds like something that’s up your street why not come down to the station every Tuesday between 7pm and 9pm, alternatively you can visit the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Website

🚨Last night crews from Thorney and Dogsthorpe were called out to an RTC on the A16 near Newborough around 7pm. 🚨

The driver had come off of the road and into a fence.

🚙Crews worked hard to remove the roof whilst keeping the casualty safe ready for rescue from the vehicle. 🚙

The casualty was safely removed and with the assistance of the ambulance crews, they were taken to hospital for immediate care. 🚑👨🏻‍⚕️

Please be careful driving, especially on high risk roads.‼️

This weeks drill period was a Breathing Apparatus (BA) exercise.

Teams can be commited at incidents using BA, so its a very important skill to practice.🚨

This week we had a smoke logged building with several unconscious casualties! 🌫️🌫️

Teams entered VIA our entry control board, telling them what their mission was, along with any extra information available. 📑

Then, they conducted search patterns, clearing a path using their feet and arms using a method called “the BA shuffle,” to navigate safely in unknown environments.

Using Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC) to spot any heat sources and signs of life, and finally bringing casualties out as quick as possible. ‼️🚒

If you’re interested in joining, why not come down to your local station located at Tank Yard just off of Station Road during our drill period. Our weekly drill period is Tuesday 7pm-9pm. Or you can just message us on this account!
