Good evening residents of Yaxley,

The crew spent yesterday evening cleaning out our operational training building. This building is used for a number of different scenarios, namely breathing apparatus training in simulated house fires.

We use furniture in the building to create realistic scenarios for when searching houses full of belongings. The old furniture in the building was completely ruined due to getting soaking wet on a regular basis in training.

Therefore, we are asking the people of Yaxley for donations!

If you have any furniture that you plan to dispose of please get in touch with photos as it may be of use to us at the station!!

Weโ€™re looking for things such as sofas, bed frames, tables, wardrobes etc.

Please note that we will be very selective in what we take as it needs to fit the space, not be in a state of disrepair or likely to go rotten if left wet.

PLEASE DO NOT drop off unwanted furniture at the station unless we have contacted you directly.

If youโ€™re able to help please get in touch, thank you!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿš’

DRILL NIGHT ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ง

Did you know that Yaxley now has swift water rescue capability? That means we can assist the wholetime pumps with water rescue incidents ๐Ÿ’ง

Playing around water is dangerous. Whether that be cold water shock, weeds or other debris it is not safe to go into open water or rivers unless at an official supervised open water venue. Donโ€™t be tempted to get in as the weather heats up!

This week the crew cooled off at the embankment in Peterborough to practice their water rescue skills. This included line rescues, tethered swimmers, sled rescues and cinches.

DRILL NIGHT ๐Ÿซก

Last night the crew were out in the yard practicing working at height. This included pitching a 9m ladder, carrying aloft a roof ladder and following procedure to safely secure it.

We also practiced our knots and lines which are an essential skill for a firefighter to maintain as they are needed in a multitude of situations such as hauling aloft equipment.

Please be our eyes and ears. Two of our stations have been broken into this week, so we're asking you, our local residents, to help us look out for any suspicious activity around our station.

Chatteris and Gamlingay fire stations were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning and Tuesday evening respectively. At Chatteris, life-saving cutting equipment used at road traffic collisions and other rescues was stolen.

Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren said: โ€œBreak-ins to fire stations are happening across the country and this week we have been victims twice. We are asking for local residents to please help be our eyes and ears, to report any suspicious activity and make a note if possible of any vehicle details including registration number, as well as descriptions of any individuals involved.

"Please also save any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage if it has captured any suspicious activity. The incidents have happened when itโ€™s dark, in the evening and early morning. Entry has been forced, so if you hear a noise coming from one of our stations, please do just look and check to see if it is our firefighters, donโ€™t assume it is. This support by our local communities would be greatly appreciated.โ€

Last night we got out in the drill yard for some BA training! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We created a scenario for a crew of 4 to roll in on the fire engine and treat it as a real incident. This type of training is great for the crew as it gets their adrenaline pumping but also requires critical thinking and problem solving resembling what happens at real emergencies.

This scenario was a house fire with persons reported. As you can see in the pictures, one of casualties was hanging out the window so the OIC (officer in charge) had the crew pitch a ladder to perform whatโ€™s called a โ€˜snatch rescueโ€™.

After this the crew finished putting in place safe systems of work before being committed into the building using breathing apparatus. The building was completely smoke logged meaning the crew had 0 visibility and relied on search techniques and a thermal imaging camera to locate and rescue a number of casualties.
