A cracking night-time view of the former General Accident building at the foot of Perth's High Street. Does anyone remember the large 'G.A.' sign at the top of the building? The image is from 1960.

🌉 A bridge with a fascinating history!

In September 1978, the spectacular Friarton Bridge opened to traffic, creating a crucial new link across the River Tay as part of the Perth Bypass. 🛣️

Designed by Freeman Fox & Partners and built by Cleveland Bridge, it was a major feat of engineering — and there’s a great bit of road-numbering history too! 👀

When it first opened, the route across the bridge was numbered M85. But in 1994, following completion of the A90 Perth–Aberdeen dualling project, the route was renumbered M90 — the designation it carries today.

📸 Nearly five decades on, the Friarton Bridge remains a vital part of Scotland’s road network.

Did you know it was originally the M85? 🤔
