The Forth Rivers Trust are hosting a volunteer session tackling Himalayan balsam as part of the South Queich project on Wednesday 10th June.

While Perth and Kinross Council are focusing on the main river, FRT are working on the tributaries feeding into the South Queich - Cross Burn and Pow Burn - where balsam is also a real issue.

Controlling these upstream sources is key to preventing further spread and protecting the wider catchment 💧

👥 Can you lend a hand? Whether you’re keen to get outdoors, meet others, or support local biodiversity, all help is welcome.

06/05/2026

No Mow May encourages people to pause mowing their lawns during May to give nature a boost. Letting grass and wildflowers grow provides vital food and habitat for pollinators like bees, butterflies and hoverflies at a time when flowers are often scarce.

Why it matters for climate action

Supports biodiversity- Even small patches of long grass and flowers can make a big difference to pollinators.
Early nectar source – Dandelions, daisies, clover and self‑seeded plants are essential spring food for insects.
Healthier soils – Longer grass improves soil structure, helping it store more carbon and retain moisture.
Cuts emissions – Fewer mows = less fuel/electricity use and lower carbon emissions.
Saves time and money – Less mowing means reduced maintenance costs.

You don’t need a whole lawn!
No Mow May isn’t all‑or‑nothing:

Leave a strip, corner or patch
Let grass grow around trees or fence edges
Raise mower height if a full break isn’t possible

Every patch counts
