Young people are ready to be active custodians of the natural world, not passive observers.

Our new national survey of 1,000 children and parents reveals that 75% of young people want to take the proposed nature GCSE – and they want real, practical experience. They are calling for hands-on fieldwork, habitat restoration and practical tools to respond to climate change.

That is why we at the Lost Gardens of Heligan have submitted a consultation response calling on the Department for Education to name the qualification GCSE Natural Futures, rather than Natural History.

The name matters. 'History' signals fossils and museums; 'Futures' reflects the living planet, environmental stewardship and the critical role this generation will play in protecting it.

From bug hunting and wildlife discovery to muddy boots and outdoor fun, Heligan Rangers is all about learning through adventure.

🐞 Heligan Rangers: After School Club Ages 6 to 11
Tuesdays & Wednesdays during term time
5pm to 6:30pm

🦋 Mini Rangers Ages 2 to 3
Tuesdays: 8, 15, 22, 29 September & 6, 13 October
10am to 11am
Parent/carer accompanied.

Heligan Rangers can become hedgehog detectives, try pond dipping, discover the magic of moth night, learn animal tracking and uncover the incredible wildlife that calls Heligan home. ✨🦔🦋

So many happy and sad feelings today as we wrap up what's been an incredible summer here at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

We've laughed, cried, learned, sang, danced, explored and more – and we're so sad to be bringing the programme to a close. A huge thanks to our newly-coined 'Nature Avengers' Steve Backshall, Maddie Moate, Hannah Stitfall , Riyadh K and Cam Whitnall.

And of course a massive thanks to everyone that's joined us over this summer - we've loved welcoming more of you than ever before through the Heligan doors and hope we can welcome you back again to show what Heligan offers throughout the seasons.

Have you spotted it? 🐝🦋🌿

The Fowey Pretty Bus Stop is such a lovely landmark in Fowey, so it was a real pleasure to work with Sarah from the pretty bus stop team to create a piece of artwork for the community, inspired by the wonderful wildlife and nature right on our doorstep.

Keep an eye out for the colourful creatures and wildlife questions on posters around town, then pop into local shops to see if you can find the answers! 🔎🌱

A little community project we are proud to be part of to get people looking a bit closer, exploring Fowey and celebrating the wild side of the town.

Due to popular demand, we’ve added two extra days of Heligan Rangers Holiday Club for those last precious days of the summer holidays.

Expect outdoor adventures, exciting challenges, nature, games and plenty of wild fun for your child.

Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2
Exclusively for 8 to 12 year olds
8:45am drop-off and 3pm collection

One last chance to get outside, get muddy and make the most of summer before the school run starts all over again. 🌱
