6th Falmouth Sea Scouts

6th Falmouth Sea Scouts 6th Falmouth Sea Scouts RN100 They also took part in Coastal Watch patrols in the Falmouth and Mawnan Smith areas.

6th Falmouth Sea Scouts started its life as 3rd Falmouth Scouts, attached to Falmouth Grammar School and we have documented records of it going back as far as 1921. We have photos and camp records going back covering the Second World War when older members of the group were trained as A.R.P’s and by local firefighters and assisted in that role. The group transformed into 3rd Falmouth Sea Scouts in

1946 after the war, as a result of difficulties in obtaining uniforms, and were helped by the Admiralty with the loan of a Motor Torpedo Boat Hull names “Trefusis” which became the floating County Headquarters and also offered an amazing training opportunity for young people in the area. In 1974 the group was renamed to 6th Falmouth Sea Scouts, and in the last 96 years has served Falmouth and Penryn and has seen 1000’s of young people pass through its doors. We have ex scouts who have gone on to joined all branches of the Armed Forces and also a large number who have gone on and served in the RNLI. Sea Scouting has the same purpose and goals as any other Scout Troop, however the main difference lays in the method of delivery. This is because in Sea Scouting, water and nautical activities are used as the basis of delivering the Balanced Programme. Although most Scouts have the opportunity for boating activities, such as sailing and canoeing, the Sea Scout programme puts considerable emphasis on water activities and also incorporates many aspects of naval and nautical traditions. Sea Scouting is available to young people from the age of 11 through Sea Scout Troops and Explorer Sea Scout Units. There are even some specialist local Sea Scout Networks for those aged 18 – 25 years. Cub Scouts (aged 8 – 11) also have the chance to start boating, particularly those within Sea Scout Groups. The Cub Scout Section has its own Water Activities Badge.

Day three was lifesize Monopoly "Kernopoly" with an adventure round Cornwall at top speed, on public transport, to collect as many places as possible. Needless to say everyone had an ice-cream on their travels and a nap on the coach back to camp.

Day two the Scouts woke up and we had decorated for Christmas as a surprise - the look on their faces was magical! We celebrated Christmas all day with presents, a visit from FC, a roast dinner and Christmas crackers! That was just the start though - the Scouts went off to do activities put on by each group in our subcamp, a great way to meet our neighbours. Then in the evening we dressed up as neon dragons and chased our very own "Silent Knight" "Sir Wish" down to evening entertainment at top speed. What a day!
