On behalf of the Tarn Committee a huge thank you to everyone who donated plants and came along to Plantfest last weekend to make it such a huge success! We were thrilled to make over £1400 which will go towards maintaining the tarn for our community to use. For context, insuring the tarn costs nearly £500 a year so these funds are vital!

Thanks to Morrisons Penrith Community Champion,
TJ Ewbank, H Pigney & Son, Royal Oak Appleby,
Larch Cottage Nurseries and our fantastic committee members who all dontated raffle prizes.

Thanks for bringing a stall to:
Pine Tree Nurseries who also donated plants
Hunters Lodge Nurseries
Westgarth Gardens
Eden Boho Macrame
Lakeland Coffee

We’ll be back with our bulb market for all your spring bulbs in October!

Thank you very much to everyone who came along to help this morning - 1000 plugs planted in 2 hours, even with a stop for cake!

Once established these plants will make a big difference to the biodiversity of the tarn attracting different wildlife and give us humans some new things to enjoy too!

If you’re walking on the tarn in the next few weeks please try to avoid the freshly mown areas off the paths where the plants have been put in to help them establish.

You may have noticed some new signs go up on the tarn in the past few weeks. We’re sorry to say that it has become necessary to put up signs about dog fowling as there is consistent problem with a few repeat offenders not clearing up after their dogs. Even as the signs were going up a member of the committee picked up a number of poo’s that had not been picked up… right by the bin!

We know lots of people enjoy walking their dogs on the tarn and really don't want to have to discourage dogs, but at the moment a small number are risking that for others. Dog mess that is not picked up is a health and environmental hazard for others that can lead to significant health issues including blindness. It’s also not very pleasant!

We also have a problem that each year we get complaints from villagers about the grass not being cut, but no one will cut it and take it away because of the dog poo in it, so we can’t resolve the issue.

It is illegal to allow your dog to fowl and not tidy up in a village and you risk being fined so we have now placed signs on the tarn stating this so no one can be in any doubt. We have also started providing poo bags next to the bin on the tarn so even if you forget bags there is no excuse!

The Council Dog Warden will also be visiting the tarn regularly and they will take forward prosecutions on behalf of the council if necessary.

We had a fantastic morning yesterday at the Photo Exhibition and Bulb Market… thank you everywho came & stayed to have a chat… it was great to see so many of our community on a bright autumn morning!
We were amazed to completely sell out of bulbs… we are now really looking forward seeing all the wonderful bulbs popping up in spring around the village!

We’re hoping to do it again next year so if there are specific bulbs you would like to see please let us know!

In the mean time we will be starting to plan for Plantfest on May 17th… if you are dividing plants etc over the next few months please keep any spares etc and we will arrange collection in the new year!
