🦅 Sculpture Gallery Talk - Englands last Golden Eagle with Bill Kenmir 🦅

16th June at 10am. Tickets are free.

Bill Kenmir is the Conservation Manager at Cumbria Connect – a collaboration of farmers, landowners and conservationists, Lowther Estate being one of them.

Bill will talk about the last Gold Eagle in England which nested in the Haweswater Valley. He will recount his time guarding the nest from egg collectors and, through his personal memories and reflections, explore what the loss of an iconic bird tells us about the changing landscape. Landscape-scale nature restoration is essential, if species like the Golden Eagle are to return. A fascinating insight into the natural world around us.

To book your free ticket please visit the “what’s on” section on the website.

🧱🏰 The restored Western Wing 🏰🧱

The restoration of the western wing of the castle has been no mean feat. James Lightfoot .stonework and his team have done a miraculous job of piecing together the old stone that had fallen and reused it again on the stabilisation whenever possible. It gives a whole new perspective and shoes the height that the old rooms would have been.

What a beautiful week it’s been to explore the gardens. Everything has come to life, the brunnera is looking fantastic lining the walk from the Roman bath to the sweet scented garden. 🪻 The new planting in the Japanese and sweet scented garden is looking wonderful showing a great variety of woodland plants 🌿🌼 and the Camassia quamash is looking beautiful in the wildflower meadow 🪻🌿
