As the Carneddau Landscape Partnership draws to a close, this episode of the Eryri Podcast reflects on the people, places and moments that have shaped the project over the years.

🌄 A Fond Farewell from Carneddau Landscape Partnership 🌄
As the Carneddau Landscape Partnership project comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible journey.
Over the past 5 years, together with our partners, volunteers, farmers, communities, schools, and supporters, we have worked to celebrate, protect, and reconnect people with the special landscapes, wildlife, heritage, and stories of the Carneddau. Through the work in access, conservation and cultural heritage habitats have been restored, historical features conserved and skills, knowledge, and unforgettable experiences have been shared.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who gave their time, passion, expertise, and enthusiasm. None of this would have been possible without you. The Carneddau remains a living, working landscape, and while this particular project may be ending, its impact and legacy will continue through the relationships built between partners and communities and the knowledge shared. Together we will continue to discover, protect and celebrate the Carneddau.

As we near closer to the end of the Carneddau Landscape Partnership, we would like to celebrate and thank all the people who have made this project possible.

This time it is the turn of the incredible staff who have worked tirelessly on the Partnership throughout the years.

Be that through access work on the land, admin work to make sure the events run smoothly, finance work, diverse conservation work, facilitation of volunteering days, interpretation and marketing to showcase findings and information, liaising with landowners, working with schools and groups, writing contracts and awarding grants, engaging with communities…

The passion and dedication shown by the Partnership staff has been inspiring - a team that has poured energy into the projects on the Carneddau. It is impossible to thank you all individually however, we hope you feel proud of what you achieved.

Yr adeg hon rydym yn canolbwyntio ar gymunedau’r Carneddau a’r prosiectau gwych y maent wedi’u harwain.

O garnifalau pentrefi, ffeiriau bioamrywiaeth, gweithdai creadigol, teithiau gerdded, sesiynau ysgol coedwig, prosiectau hanes llafar, digwyddiadau awyr dywyll, hyfforddiant arweinydd tir isel a llawer mwy o gyfleoedd i bobl darganfod, dysgu a dathlu beth mae tirwedd y Carneddau’n ei olygu iddyn nhw.

As we near closer to the end of the Carneddau Landscape Partnership, we would like to celebrate and thank all the people who have made this project possible.

This time we are highlighting the Carneddau communities and the brilliant projects they have led.

There have been village carnivals, biodiversity fairs, creative workshops, guided walks, forest school sessions, oral history projects, dark sky events, lowland leader training and many more opportunities for people to experience, learn and celebrate what the Carneddau landscape means to them.

The partnership awarded £77,000 worth of grants to support community projects and many of our partners have built strong links within the communities which we hope develop further.

It has been wonderful to work alongside such passionate and creative people. We would like to thank the communities for working with us to help discover, protect and celebrate the Carneddau landscape.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve travelled around the communities of the Carneddau, sharing the incredible work that’s been carried out across this special landscape. It’s been a fantastic opportunity not only to showcase what has been achieved, but to sit down with local groups, organisations and individuals to talk about the work that has been done- and also the future of the Carneddau.

Your thoughts, ideas and feedback are vital as we bring the project to a close and begin shaping the long-term legacy of caring for, celebrating and protecting this unique landscape.

Drwy gydol rhaglen 14-wythnos, bu myfyrwyr cyfryngau TGAU Ysgol Aberconwy yn gweithio gyda Jess John, hanesydd llên gwerin, i ddewis o'r tapestri cyfoethog o chwedlau sydd wedi llunio hunaniaeth Gymreig ers cenedlaethau. Happy Calan Gaeaf!🌙

Throughout a 14-week programme, Ysgol Aberconwy GCSE media students worked with Jess John, folklore historian, to select from the rich tapestry of legends that have shaped Welsh identity for generations. The students then went ahead to work with Wild Kindness Films cic to bring their interpretation of the tales alive through the medium of short and haunting films.

Written, filmed and edited by the talented media students, these short films were created as part of the Carneddau Landscape Partnership project “Calan Gaeaf”, where local magic and mystery was explored through immersive workshops, screenplay writing and fun filming days!

Whether you're new to Welsh traditions or revisiting tales from your childhood, this taste of Calan Gaeaf offers a powerful glimpse into the roots of our storytelling culture whilst reminding us how important it is to continue to tell these tales for generations to come.

Jess explores the rich tapestry of legends that have shaped Welsh identity for generations. This film celebrates the magic, mystery, and meaning behind one of our most haunting cultural traditions — and reminds us why it's so important to preserve and pass down these stories today.

5 years of discovering, protecting and celebrating the Carneddau Landscape ❤️

From 2020 to 2025, the Partnership worked with local communities, organisations and groups to protect and celebrate the Carneddau landscape through a wide range of projects.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve loved meeting many of you at our roadshows in Llanrwst, Trefriw, Llanfairfechan, Capel Curig, Bethesda and Dolgarrog. Thank you to those of you who came to share your thoughts!

We are now almost at the end of our roadshows journey around the Carneddau with our final stop being in Rowen and we’d love to see you there!
