Yesterday, the Governor joined the Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR), RBR Junior Leaders, Bermuda Police Service, and the Bermuda Sea Cadets to mark The King’s Birthday with a ceremonial parade on Front Street in Hamilton.

The Governor arrived at the Flagpole in the Landau accompanied by his Aide-de-Camp, Capt Matvey. He was also joined by two outstanding RBR Junior Leaders LCpl Tristan White and Ms Amirah Trott.

The Royal Bermuda Regiment gave a 21 Gun salute, along with three rifle volleys, before the Governor led ‘three cheers’ to His Majesty The King.

The event was attended by the Premier and other distinguished representatives from the Government, Legislature and the judiciary.

A big thank you to all those involved in organising the parade, and ensuring everything went smoothly.

The Governor joined a ceremony to mark the landing of two undersea cables at Annie’s Bay, St. David’s. Google’s “Nuvem” and “Sol” undersea cables are an important investment in Bermuda. As Brian Quigley, the view president of global infrastructure for Google Cloud put it, “Just as Bermudian cedar was the 17th- century accelerator to make you a shipping hub, these submarine cables make you the digital exchange hub directly between North America and Europe.” “Nuvem” will connect Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to Portugal, while “Sol” will run from Florida to Spain. Fantastic to see this significant investment in Bermuda.

The Governor, as Patron of The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Bermuda, welcomed 27 Gold Awardees to Government House for a Gold Award Ceremony. The Governor presented Gold certificates and pins to the awardees, one of the largest cohorts in Bermuda’s Duke of Edinburgh’s history. It was a privilege to celebrate these young Bermudians’ achievements in front of their friends and families. Together they logged over 10,000 hours of voluntary service. Congratulations to all on this amazing achievement.

Dear Governor,

As the people of Bermuda mark the occasion of Bermuda Day, my wife and I take this opportunity to extend our sincere congratulations to your Premier and to all those who call Bermuda their home.

I would also like to offer my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderfully warm welcome I received across Bermuda during my visit earlier this month. As I reflect on that visit, I join you in recognising and celebrating the many remarkable young people on these islands. I greatly appreciated seeing at first-hand the conservation work at the Living Classroom on Trunk Island, helping to protect and preserve Bermuda’s unique biodiversity for future generations. Our long-term wellbeing is inseparable from the health of the natural world we inherit, and I am hugely encouraged by the emphasis placed on engaging young people in caring for local habitats.

I have long held a special affection for the Overseas Territories, and I greatly value the unique character, traditions and contributions of each Territory within our wider British family. The strength of community, pride in heritage and commitment to progress are qualities I deeply admire.

My wife and I trust that the coming year will bring continued progress and wellbeing to the whole community of Bermuda.

Charles R.
