Deborah Willcocks - Town Councillor for Pembroke St Mary South

Deborah Willcocks - Town Councillor for Pembroke St Mary South Newly elected Town Councillor for Pembroke St Mary South I was born in Pembroke Dock and moved to Pembroke with my family as a teenager.

Dear voter,

I am standing as a candidate for the position of County Councillor for the ward of Pembroke St Mary North. I opened my own business in Pembroke 7 years ago when I retired from nursing after a 32 year career. My nursing career included working as both a surgical and outpatient nurse at Withybush, 7 years in the Army with postings in Germany and Hong Kong and several years working for

The Welsh Blood Service in Cardiff. In 2007 I was so excited to move back to Pembroke with my family and we love being part of such a close and caring community. I have always been reluctant to stand as a councillor in the past due to the often aggressive nature of politics. However I strongly believe that we need more women in positions of influence and have therefore decided to stand. As well as helping and supporting with any local issues that arise in Pembroke St Mary North, I have 5 main areas of interest that I would also wish to pursue as a county councillor - these are on the reverse of this leaflet. As mentioned below, I firmly believe that we can get things done by being respectful and always acting with care and kindness, I will therefore promise to run a positive campaign and always act in the best interests of the individual and the community. Please feel free to contact me with any issues or ideas.

Had a really interesting guest at our Town Council meeting. The Police and Crime Commisioner, Dafydd Llewelyn talked about policing priorities in Pembrokeshire. We were then able to ask questions.

I mentioned our concerns about anti social behaviour in Pembroke and the lack of visible police patrols after 10pm. He said that although there weren’t always visible police on patrol, they are available and are approximately 20 minutes away if you call 101 or 999 in an emergency. He reiterated how important it was to report all crimes no matter how small. I believe you can report on line as well.

If you want to remain anonymous you can also call Crime stoppers on 0800555111.

I often get people telling me about incidents which they haven’t reported because they presume nothing will happen. He reiterated how important it is to report everything as it builds a picture for them.

My first official duty as Councillor, I never expected that it would include dressing as a reindeer! What a fantastic evening at Pembroke Castle Christmas Market. So much excitement for the arrival of Santa. We handed out over a thousand Advent Calendars to the children as they left. Such a fantastic joyous community event, thank you for all your hard work Pembroke Castle.

Great to meet with Pembroke Dock and Pembroke Police Neighbourhood Policing Team this afternoon. Many issues were discussed, including anti-social behaviour, speeding, drugs and under-age drinking. Both Aaron Carey County Councillor for Pembroke St Mary South and myself are looking forward to developing a good working relationship with the team, this will include joining the Police on patrol in the ward as well as regular update meetings.

Thank you to my husband Jonathan Grimes Jonathan Grimes - Town Councillor for Pembroke Monkton for attending the “Save Withybush” Rally on behalf of both of us. I wasn’t able to leave the shop today to attend in person. However having worked at Withybush at various times since 1984 to 2014 I know how vital the hospital is to the residents of Pembrokeshire and will always support the fight to maintain its services
