On this day in history, 28 January 1457, Henry Tudor was born in Pembroke Castle. Coming through many perils in his youth, he would eventually found one of the greatest dynasties.

We are proud of Henry here in his hometown of Pembroke, and soon there will be a wonderful visitor's centre to tell his story.

On this day in 1509, Margaret Beaufort, who gave birth to Henry Tudor at Pembroke Castle, passed away. She was remembered at her funeral with a fine eulogy from Bishop John Fisher, later to be sainted by the Catholic Church, who said she was:

"Of marvellous gentleness she was unto all folks, but especially unto her own, whom she trusted, and loved right tenderly. Unkind she would not be unto no creature, nor forgetful of any kindness or service done to her before, which is no little part of very nobleness".

On 2 April 1502, Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales and eldest son of King Henry VII, dies aged 15 at Ludlow Castle. He was buried in a specially constructed Chantry at Worcester Cathedral, which still survives today.

The Prince's arms are also still visible near Pembroke at Carew Castle.
