• Keep a close eye on older people, young children, and people with long term health
conditions – their bodies can struggle to cope with the heat and they are at greater
risk.
• Keep cool indoors. Close curtains on windows that face the sun, open windows when
its cooler outside than in (when it is safe to do so) and turn off any unnecessary
electrical items. Remember it is sometimes cooler sitting in a park under a tree than it
is in a home that is too hot.
• Check weather forecasts and if you’re spending time outdoors remember to travel
with bottled water.
• Protect yourself from the sun by covering up with suitable clothing, a wide-brimmed
hat and sunglasses. Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen with UVA protection liberally and re-apply frequently and seek shade, especially between 11am and 3pm, when UV levels
are highest.
• Remember children need extra sun protection

How do you use the Miners Welfare Recreation Ground on Bath Road? Is the children's park important to you? Would you like to see other facilities in the children's play park? Do you think there is enough play equipment for older / younger children? Do you use the football/basketball practice frame? Do you use the skate park or the bike track? Do you use the park for quiet time, to walk and enjoy the space? Is it the place you walk your dog? Are you a member of one of the football teams that use the facility or do you just like to go along and watch them play?

Is the Recreation ground a safe place to be? Should there be a picnic area for families who want to spend the day there with their children? How can we encourage everybody to respect the facilities more so the graffitti and the littering stops and the place becomes a safe place for everybody to be? Is there something else we could do to ensure everybody respect the rules that make the recreation ground safe and a lovely place to be?

Have your voice... let the Parish office know by responding to this message or by emailing [email protected] to let us know what you think of what we are providing and if you have any ideas for how to improve it even more.

The Recreation ground is there for many people across our community to use and enjoy so you will understand that we cannot do everything than everybody wants but that doesn't mean to say that we can not make changes in small ways to what we provide. Every big difference begins with a small conversation.
