🌟 Celebrating Our Volunteers: The Backbone of West Scotland Wing 🌟

As National Volunteering Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to shine a massive spotlight on the incredible team of adult volunteers who make everything we do across West Scotland Wing possible.

Behind every cadet achievement, every successful camp, every parade, and every new qualification is a team of dedicated individuals giving up their spare time. From our Officer Commanding Wing, Wing Staff Officers, Squadron Commanders and Civilian Instructors to our committee members and service instructors, our adult volunteers wear many hats: mentors, educators, logistics experts, and role models.

Why Our Volunteers Are Second to None:

Dedication: Balancing family, full-time careers, and personal commitments to show up week after week for our young people.

Inspiration: Giving cadets the confidence to step out of their comfort zones, learn new skills, and reach their full potential.

Impact: Creating a safe, dynamic, and supportive environment where lifelong friendships and skills are built.

To our team across West Scotland Wing: your hard work behind the scenes does not go unnoticed.

The energy, professionalism, and passion you bring to the RAF Air Cadets shape the leaders of tomorrow.

Thank you for your service, your time, and your unwavering commitment.

A massive congratulations to the incredible cadets from across the Wing and a Squadron from North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC who successfully tackled and completed their Silver The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition!

Navigating challenging terrain, managing unpredictable weather, and working seamlessly as a team, these cadets showed true grit, determination, and outstanding leadership.

A huge shoutout to the participating squadrons who made us proud:

🥾 Teamwork in Action

The Silver DofE expedition is no easy feat requiring self-sufficiency, route planning, and carrying everything needed to camp out and survive on the hills. Seeing cadets from different squadrons come together, support one another, and cross the finish line as a united team is exactly what the Air Cadets is all about.

🏃‍♂️ West Scotland Wing Athletics 2026 🏃‍♀️

Well done to all of you that represented your Squadrons at West Scotland Wing Athletics yesterday in Kilmarnock

From the 100m sprint to the high jump, the energy on the field was electric. It was a day for PB’s, teamwork, and showing exactly what the Air Cadets are made of.

✨ A Historic Milestone

A massive shout-out to 2521 Oban Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets yesterday marks a very special moment as they officially competed at Wing Athletics for the first time since joining the West Scotland Wing family and one of their cadets achieved a Gold Medal!

Recently marked a truly significant milestone for West Scotland Wing, as our Officer Commanding, Wing Commander E Crawley, conducted his very first Annual Formal Inspection (AFI) since taking command of the Wing.

The evening was made even more poignant by the fact that Wing Commander Crawley returned to the very Squadron 498 - Wishaw Sqn Royal Air Force Air Cadets where he previously served as Squadron Commander. It was a proud "full circle" moment to see him back on his old stomping grounds, witnessing the continued growth and excellence of the unit he once led.

Well done to the cadets presented with awards and promotions during this event!

4 x West Scotland Wing Squadrons hit the hills this weekend for a challenging Silver The Duke of Edinburgh's Award practice expedition! 🥾⛰️

Our cadets pushed through two nights of camping and two full days of trekking, proving their resilience against some seriously changeable Scottish weather. From sun to downpours, they handled it all with great spirit.

A massive thank you to:
• Auchengillan Outdoor Centre for hosting our base camp for the weekend.
• Carbeth Fishery for the parking facilities and the fantastic hospitality shown to our staff each morning. ☕️

Bravo to everyone involved—one step closer to that Silver award! 🥈

Today, cadets from across West Scotland Wing stood together with other uniformed organisations in Ardrossan for a deeply moving memorial service to remember those lost on HMS Dasher.

It was a profound honour to have HRH The Princess Royal in attendance, lending a royal tribute to the 379 men who lost their lives in the 1943 tragedy. Our cadets participated in a formal parade and a solemn service at the memorial site, followed by a presentation event within the church.

We would like to thank the Royal British Legion Scotland Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston Branch for inviting 1138 (Ardrossan) Squadron, Air Training Corps, and to 1138 for extending that invitation to the wider squadrons within the local area 1195 Irvine Squadron Air Cadets 327 Kilmarnock Sqn RAF Air Cadets 1371 Girvan Royal Air Force Air Cadets 137 Ayr & Prestwick Squadron RAF Air Cadets.

Seeing our cadets and adult volunteers represent the RAF Air Cadets with such dignity and respect was a proud moment for everyone involved.

Huge congratulations are in order for 15 of our dedicated cadets from across West Scotland Wing! 🌟

These cadets have officially earned their Bronze First Aid badges after successfully completing the Youth First Aid course training and assessments.

From managing minor injuries to handling emergency situations, they’ve proven they have the skills and the confidence to step up when it counts.

First aid is one of the most vital skills we teach in the RAF Air Cadets, and seeing 15 individuals from various squadrons across the Wing succeed together is a testament to their hard work and the quality of our instructors.

Thank you to 2175 Rolls-Royce Squadron RAF Air Cadets for organising and hosting!

Well done to everyone involved! Wear those badges with pride—you’ve earned them.

Huge congratulations to the 14 cadets from across West Scotland Wing who successfully completed their Bronze Leadership course at 1777 Dumbarton Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets

It’s takes confidence to step up and hone the skills required to lead others. Over the course, these cadets tackled command tasks, refined their communication, and proved they have the initiative to drive their fellow cadets forward.

A massive thank you to the staff from across West Scotland Wing and to Dumbarton Squadron for hosting and ensuring the next generation of leaders are well-equipped.
