Further to our post yesterday regarding youths conducting urban exploration in local derelict buildings, further reports were received last night. There were two reports in Paignton of youths breaking into derelict buildings opposite Paignton Railway Station and the Oldway Mansion complex. In Brixham a group of youths broke into a derelict care home site. Police received two calls, including one from a youth who reported that his friend had fallen through a skylight on the site. Police and two large fire appliances were sent to the site and a group of youths were seen to run away. A broken skylight was found and a full search was conducted of the buildings by fire officers but nobody was found.

Sgt Ed Thomas said: “This type of behaviour put police officers and especially fire officers at considerable risk and wastes emergency service time that could be needed elsewhere. Enquiries have given us a number of names of those possibly involved, including people from elsewhere in Torbay and as far as Exeter. We will be making follow up enquiries with those concerned and their families.”

If you think people are accessing an abandoned building near you, please contact Torbay Council (ASB, environment and nuisance - Torbay Council) and the owner of the property. Any urgent issues, please contact the Police via the normal channels.

Police are receiving daily reports of young people entering abandoned buildings throughout Torbay, putting themselves and others at risk. At some point, someone could be seriously hurt or worse.

Breaking into abandoned buildings is highly dangerous. Many are unstable with unsafe floors broken glass and exposed electrical wiring as well as entrapment hazards. There is the risk of exposure to asbestos as well as pigeon and other faeces. The health risks from exposure will not be seen now but many years in the future.

We ask parents to think about what their children are doing in their free time and, if they believe they are involved in this activity, to discuss the dangers with them. Please remember, although trespass is deemed a civil matter, burglary and other offences are criminal and will be dealt with accordingly.

If you think people are accessing an abandoned building near you, please contact Council (ASB, environment and nuisance - Torbay Council) and the owner of the property. Any urgent issues, please contact the Police via the normal channels.

Policing at the Riviera Airshow

31/05/2026

The Paignton Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to extend our warm congratulations to Torbay Council for delivering another fantastic Riviera Airshow. It was a brilliant weekend that brought our community together to enjoy breathtaking displays, seaside smiles, and plenty of family fun.

A huge thank you to the public for their patience, support, and good spirits throughout the event, and to our neighbourhood policing colleagues from across South Devon who joined us to help keep everyone safe and ensure the show ran smoothly. From the skies above to the promenade below, it was a true team effort—and we’re proud to have played our part in helping another Riviera Airshow soar to success! ✈️☀️👏

We’re expecting a large number of visitors across Paignton, Torbay and the seafront, so please plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.

If you’re enjoying the sunshine, remember to stay hydrated, keep an eye on children near the water, and never leave dogs in hot vehicles.

Our officers will be out and about throughout the whole weekend, so come and say hello 👋

👮🏼 Dawlish Warren Beach – Police Engagement Update

During the evening of Friday 22 May, following information and intelligence received, officers from our Neighbourhood Teams across South Devon attended Dawlish Warren Beach in response to reports of a large number of young people gathering in the area, some of which had travelled to Dawlish from all over the South Devon area.

Our approach was focused on engagement and education. We recognise that young people want to socialise and enjoy themselves; however, it is important this is done in a safe and responsible manner.

Officers engaged positively with those present, resulting in constructive interactions. While the majority of people were cooperative and respectful, a large number of alcohol seizures were made.

Our primary concern was the safety of the public, particularly given the number of young people present, with many being under the influence of alcohol, on a beach with the tide coming in. Our clear aim was to safeguard those present and ensure everyone was able to leave the area safely.

We would like to thank those who engaged with officers and understood the reasons for our presence and actions.

It is disappointing that officers were also required to assist in clearing litter from the beach afterwards, and we would urge everyone to take responsibility for the environment.

We are aware of further planned gatherings across South Devon. We will continue to take a proactive approach, working to engage and educate. We also ask parents and guardians to consider the risks associated with large, unsupervised public gatherings when making decisions about their children attending such events.
